"We strongly condemn the armed violence which led to the death of an Iskandar Muda Military Police officer," KPA spokesman Ibrahim bin Syamsuddin said here on Monday.

He said the murder was an intolerable act and therefore all of Aceh had to be kept free from criminal and violent acts after peace had returned to the province following the end of the past armed conflict.

"The criminal cases happening in Aceh should not be politicized nor related to the existence of the Aceh Transitional Committee," Ibrahim bin Syamsuddin said, adding that KPA was an ordinary organization of former Free Aceh Movement (GAM) members which did not have any commanding authority over its members.

He said Saturday`s killing of Ujang could be part of a political scenario to compromise the KPA`s legality as an organization.

"Our organization fully supports law enforcement in Aceh. We also call on all KPA members to remain on guard against infiltration by criminal elements," he said.

Iskandar Muda Military Chief Maj Gen Supiadin AS said after the incident on Saturday that the shooting of the Military Police officer was perpetrated by two men riding on a motorcycle.

"Two military personnel and two civilians were in the same car when two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle blocked their way and shot at the car driver, First Sergeant Ujang," Supiadin said.

He said Ujang died on the spot while the two men on the motorcycle disappeared in the dark.
