Kwame Kilpatrick Latest News: Ordered to Pay $319,000 to Court
The Kwame Kilpatrick latest news is that the former Detroit Mayor has been ordered to pay $319,000 to the court within three months and a judge called him a liar saying that his attempt to try to hide hundreds of thousands of dollars from the court was 'reprehensible'.
The $319,000 amout is based on the assets that the court learned that Kilpatrick had not told them about.
The former Mayor has four years left to pay off the balance of the $1 million, and he now has to undergo a more detailed monthly revision; a violation of this could result in more jail time.
Judge Groner presided over the hearing today:
"This court finds it incredulous that this defendant would claim indigence," Groner said. Kilpatrick had told the court he had just $6 left after paying all of his bills.
Groner added that Kilpatrick exhibited a "general lack of integrity" and his "conduct in this matter (was) reprehensible."
Kwame Kilpatrick is said to be considering an appeal according to his lawyer Willie Gary:
"We're here to follow the orders of the judge, which Mr. Kilpatrick has attempted to do all along," Gary said.
Mr. Kilpatrick has three months to pay off $240,000 in loans from four businessmen, one month to pay $19,500 in gifts, $36,142 from his civic fund and $23,368 from his tax refund.
He will also have to give up his city pension, which he cashed just before his probation order in October 2008; that is worth more than $52,000.
If he doesn't pay up the $370,000 it could be a violation of his jail order and he could be sent back to the Wayne County Jail.
"Although it is not the intent of the court to not set defendant up for failure, the court will remind defendant that the failure to meet the terms set forth in the orders of the court, will result in a probation violation hearing, and will expose defendants to severe sanctions up to and including incarceration," Groner wrote in a 2 1/2 -page order.

It is apparent that talent can take you to a place where your character can't sustain you. Several years ago I took my girls to get a slurp at 7-11. Who was working behind the counter? Denny McClain! And what aboutTiger Woods? On and on we can go. Lots of talent. Too bad someone didn't teach them about character.
