Lakewood Police Shooting: 4 Officers Shot Dead
Four police officers have been shot dead in an apparent ambush at the East exit of McChord AFB. The incident took place near 8:30 am local time this morning. The incident occurred in a coffee shop just outside McChord AFB.
The officers were apparently working on their computers getting ready for the day, when the gunman entered.
It would appear that the police officers were targeted. No other customers were injured in the attack.
A spokesman for McChord AFB said that the base is not in lock-down. ID cards are being checked as per normal routine.
According to Pearceland Sheriff Department two gunmen are still on the loose.
A description of one of the two suspects has now been issued;
He is a black male, 5 ft 7 to 5 ft 10, Scruffy Appearance, Black Coat and Blue Jeans.
There is no description of the other suspect. He is apparently caucasian.
No other details are available at this time.

Investigators now believe the gunman also may have been shot during the cold-blooded attack, as one of the officers returned fire just before he died of his injuries. In fact they hope the gunman was shot, as that would tell them who he is.
Police have identified a person of interest, Maurice Clemmons, 37, of Parklands. A spokesman Jeff Kappel said that the police surrounded a home in Seattle at 8:45 pm after receiving a tip that Clemmons may be inside.
Police are trying to get the man inside to surrender without incident.
Spokesman Jeff Kappel said the SWAT team surrounded the home around 8:45 p.m. after receiving a tip that Maurice Clemmons may be inside.
Investigators on the scene said negotiators are trying to get the man inside to surrender without incident.
"We have to go on the assumption that anyone that may be involved in the events today is armed and dangerous. So we're using an abundance of caution," said Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel.
Clemmons, 37, is being sought in the deadly shooting of four Lakewood police officers on Sunday morning.
One of the officers was shot as he attempted to struggle with the gunman, Troyer said. Another officer fired off some shots toward the gunman as he fled, and may have hit him.
"We have reason to believe there were shots fired," Troyer said. "We hope the suspect was shot, because that would tell us who it is. There aren't a whole lot of people running around with gunshot wounds." Two baristas and a handful of other customers were inside the coffee shop at the time of the attack, but none of them were shot or injured. The suspect fled without taking any money.
SEATTLE — Four police officers were shot dead in an ambush at a Washington state coffee house, a sheriff's official said Sunday.
The attack occurred near McChord Air Force Base in Parkland, Wash.
Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer tells KOMO-TV that the officers were hit near 116th Street and Steele Street on the east side of the Air Force base at about 8:30 a.m.
The officers were shot at Forza Coffee, the News Tribune of Tacoma reported. KOMO TV in Seattle reported that a $10,000 reward is being offered.
Multiple police agencies have joined in the hunt for the gunmen.
Three male officers and one female officer all died at the scene.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest of the suspects, Troyer said. An emergency tip line has been set up, at 866-977-2362, for callers to report any helpful information.
Emergency personnel rushed to the scene after receiving a report that multiple officers were shot and killed in the ambush at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, according to reports from the scene.
Within minutes, hundreds of investigators and police were rushing to the scene. Roads were blocked in the vicinity of the attack.
Later in the morning, officers identified a white pickup truck abandoned at 134th Street and Pacific Avenue South that is believed to be the one that the suspects fled in.

What does it matter. The gunman will get away with it. He is the right color.

No, there was a possible get away driver accomplace. Police may have shot the shooter before being killed themselves.
Fed need to get onto this case as possible terrorism.

The FBI is already involved. I found the reference that the gunmen might have been shot. It appears that there was a struggle with the gunman. Thanks for the tip Jim.

Thank you ACP for this story!
It breaks my heart to have to say this but it's got to be said:
People in uniform need to be more aware of their surroundings and the people around them. They need to train every day with their weapons, their hands, their feet, and their legs with the expectation that they'll be in combat at any moment. Many of them need to get into better shape both mentally and physically. And in general, they need to start expecting that which is unexpected and accept the fact that they're on their own and left to their own defenses and devices.
Unfortunately, there's a lot of savvy SOBs out there that are much better prepared for combat and heart breaking than those that are sworn to serve and protect.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I would think what you stated in your comments is good advice and should be drilled into them during daily briefings.

WHY did they do it?
it just makes me scream "why?"
i know what it feels like to want revenge against people who've harmed me, and police are often looked to as aggressive and authoritarian, but this kind of action makes no sense to me. why would four police officers just be killed, in a place where totally unrelated people could also become victims... it's just senseless and insane. is there any info about WHY the gunmen did this? anything??
random? arrogant killer randomness??
