Landra Reid Undergoes Neck Surgery, Set To Be Released From Hospital In Coming Days

Landra Reid, the wife of Nevada Senator and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, has undergone neck surgery on Friday. Landra Reid and her daughter Lana Reid got into serious four-vehicle accident outside Washington, DC yesterday. Their 2005 Honda Odyssey has been read-ended by a tractor-trailer. Alan W. Snader, the driver of the tractor-trailer, has been charged with reckless driving.

Landra Reid sustained a broken nose, neck and a vertebra in her lower back as the result of the accident. Harry Reid's daughter Lana Reid was released from hospital on Thursday night after being treated for neck injury and facial lacerations.

Reid is being treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Reid's surgeons say she can get out of bed and is able to move her arms and legs. Her pain is controlled with medications. Landra Reid is expected to be released in a few days.

Harry Reid was with his family after finding out about the crash. He returned to his office to work on health care legislation later on Thursday. Reid was there for his wife's surgery on Friday.

"Landra and I have been married for 50 years -- she is the love of my life," Reid said in a statement read by Summers at a news conference. "And I look forward to her making a quick recovery as soon as possible."

Dear Landra, I was saddened to hear about your terrible accident, but relieved to know that you are expected to make a full recovery. My prayers will be with you and Lana and all the family. I know recovery will take some time and effort but with love and support, you will get through this. I often think of when DeVoe died and you were serving as R.S. President and how much you did for me and our family. I will always treasure that. Love, Pat Heaton
