Closing in from three sides on the cornered LTTE, including its leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, in their shrinking territory in the northern part of island, Sri Lankan forces on Thursday pushed back the rebels further killing 41 of them in fierce fighting.

The army, which outnumbers and outguns the rebels, is now virtually close to encircling Vellamullivaikkal, close to the coast where Prabhakaran and his top aides are believed to be hiding, as President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday declared that terrorism cannot be given a second chance.

"We have no plans to go for a ceasefire with the Tigers," Rajapaksa said and warned the rebels that they must give up or be killed.

His brother Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told the British and French foreign ministers that Sri Lanka will keep up its military offensive until the leaders of the LTTE, mainly its chief Prabhakaran is captured "dead or alive".

Speaking at a public function at Ambilipitiya in Western Sri Lanka, the President called on the LTTE that they should release all civilians being held as hostage and surrender.

He said the decision to stop using heavy weapons and combat aircrafts on battlefront was not due to international pressure, but because the government itself was concerned about ensuring safety of civilians in LTTE-controlled areas.

With the LTTE fast losing their territory, Mr. Rajapaksa told them they had little time left to drop their weapons and surrender as the military operation was at its final stage.

But as the army made deeper inroads into the LTTE-held areas, the rebels, according to army sources, are putting up a very stiff resistance.

The pro-LTTE TamilNet website today quoted the top rebels leaders that the Tamil Tigers will never surrender to the advancing Sri Lankan forces and appealed to the international countries to work for a ceasefire.

During the past 48 hours security forces advanced further South of Rektavaikkal, shrinking the remaining swathe of the LTTE-controlled land to a mere 7 sq km. where the rebels are expected to face their end game, military sources said.

The troops advanced south and the personnel of 53rd Division are moving in from west of Vellamullivaikkal, spear-heading the rescue operations, the defence ministry said.

Citing latest reports from the Mullaittivu front, the sources said that at least 15 LTTE rebels were killed and another 20 injured during confrontations between troops and LTTE in general area Karayamullivaikkal on Wednesday.

The LTTE casualties are expected to rise as infantrymen made decisive ground maneuvers deeper into enemy territory despite heavy mine fields.- The Hindu

All the glory of the once hot headed LTTE is now missing. The burning question at this time is why Pirahakaran and his fellow terrorists are not releasing Tamil civilians from their grasp.

Reading stories published in Tamilnet etc are becoming more and more humorous by the day. Their knack at distorting facts is being exposed. Doctoring of photographs have come to light. The saying "Supporters of Terrorists are also Terrorists"  should be kept in mind when negotiating the pages of Tamilnet etc.

We see headline news about how the British and French Foreign Ministers tried to secure a ceasefire from GOSL. But still, we don't even see a footnote about these people trying to get Pirahakaran to release the civilians who are terrorized and controlled by him.  What's up with that?

Some talk big about the Unilateral Ceasefire which the Tamil Terrorits observed a few days ago. Perhaps, this announcement will be remembered as the Joke of the Year.

For the LTTE, the end is near.

Can Srilankan Govt allow international news agencies and UN to meet the Tamil people (so called rescued!) and let them understand the real truth?

If Srilankan govt is not allowing this, then it is evident that SL Govt is hiding it’s own TERRORRISM from the world. Is it not that simple TRUTH?

If the subject in this comment is LTTE, then the word "genocide" does apply. No, GoSL will never allow any kind of disaster tourism or sight-seeing till the pest control is complete with a poof.

Guys...  Many of the Tamil people relatives lives in foreign countries. If Prabaharan is doing the rape then it will be certainly came out. So this shows you people were deeply brainwashed by Srilankan Govt for years and generations.

There are international regulations and Laws of War. International Red Cross should be allowed and both parties shouldn’t touch them. Srilankan Govt can’t follow this basic principle. This itself shows that it’s doing Genocide and hides to the world.

This shows that somebody born brain dead. What is the big deal if some relatives live in foreign countries?Similarly other Sri Lankans too have many relatives live in foreign countries.

International regulation of wars are applicable only in the case of a "war". Here what happens in Sri Lanka is just a pest control operation. That is it.

" Many of the Tamil people relatives lives in foreign countries. If Prabaharan is doing the rape then it will be certainly came out."

You have a habit of bringing this phrase out in many threads without any originality.

Most  if not all of these so called relatives have donated money for terrorism. Nobody comes out with it. Nobody talks about it. But, now when no return is seen for the investment, they get on the streets. Am I right or am I right?

Exactly.

US and many western countries announced lot of rescue packages to many recession hit industries of their countries. Since terrorism was an industry for LTTE  and these cry-baby (cub?) diasporans were the stakeholders obviously when the industry went downhill, they thought of asking the western governments for revival packages.

In a way what happens in Sri Lanka is nothing but  recession and downturn for LTTE and the "diasporans".

If Srilankan Govt is saving Tamil people from LTTE then they should allow international Redcross to help the situation rather begging for money to all the countries and IMF. Every one will stopping paying Srilanaka govt and force them to allow UN and Redcross. Then all the truth will come out.

Why don’t they just stop the pest control for a week? and just round up the area by not allowing LTTE escape and allow the UN and Redcross to meet the people recovered?

What are they hiding there by not allowing?

Pest control is a kind of Binary operation. It can have only two states. Pests or no pests. Can't stop the operation because situation is that there are pests now.

Oh, please remember that the GoSL gave two days halt in April. But LTTE  thought that this an act under pressure from the LTTE supporting diaspora and sensed a slim chance to slip through. So they did not allow the civilians to escape.

Talk to LTTE and ask them to free civilian hostages, if you can.If you cant, then please go and watch the latest Rajinikanth movie , gulp down a couple of  pints and sleep. That is the  best thing you can do right now to your aching spine and RSI troubled wrists.

Yes. The Srilankan TV is the world best media, which will say One and Only Truth.

But it won't say anything about why the hell there are some Sinhalese journalists dead in Columbo.

You people are really sick, and full head of Racism...

"But it won't say anything about why the hell there are some Sinhalese journalists dead in Columbo. "

They were standing right under a coconut tree. Coconut fell on their head. Dead on the spot.

Though we don't know the weight of the coconut yet.

Does that answer your question?
