Lars Vilks Attacked: Video, Muhammad Cartoonist Uppsala
Video: Lars Vilks Attacked During Lecture At Uppsala University
Lar Vilks, the Swedish artists who angered many Muslims for depicting the Prophet Mohammed as dog in a satirical cartoon was attacked during a presentation at Uppsala Univeristy, near Stockholm.
A video captures some of the attack. It shows Lar Vilks' lecture being interrupted by angry protesters chanting slogans in God Is Great in Arabic. The Lars Vilks attack video shows what seems to be one protester rushing the Vilk's and head butting the artist
"A man ran up and threw himself over me. I was head-butted and my glasses were broken," Vilks said before hanging up for questioning by police.
The video of Lars Vilks Attack also shows unruly protesters disrupting the meeting, jostling with police.
Lar Vilk's has been the subject of a number of threats for his controversial sketch of Muhammad.
The drawings were initially intended to be shown at a local art exhibition in the small town of Tällerud in Värmland, Sweden, in July 2007, but were removed from the exhibition by the organizers, citing security concerns and fear of violence from Muslims, shortly before its opening.[2] Following the first refusal, Vilks submitted the drawings to several other art galleries in Sweden, including the distinguished Gerlesborg School of Fine Art in Bohuslän where Vilks is a frequent lecturer, but all declined to show the drawings for the same reason. The controversy gained international attention after the Örebro-based regional newspaper Nerikes Allehanda published one of the drawings on 18 August to illustrate an editorial on self-censorship and freedom of religion.[3] While several other leading Swedish newspapers had published the drawings at this time, this publication led to protests from Muslim organizations in Sweden as well as condemnations from several foreign governments including Iran,[4] Pakistan,[5] Afghanistan,[6] Egypt,[7] and Jordan,[8] as well as by the inter-governmental Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which also called for the Swedish government to take "punitive actions" against Vilks.
Threats against Lar Vilks continued to escalate including death threats from Iraqi Islamist groups affiliated with Al Qaeda which offered a $150,000 for Vilks' assassination.
In March of 2010 U.S. authorities arrested Colleen LaRose (aka Jihad Jane. U.S. police say LaRose was trying to recruit terrorists to murder Lars Vilks.
Despite the numerous threats and the bounty on his life this is apparently is the first physical attack on Lars Vilks

There is no reason to do this. All this kind of action will achieve is more apostasy from Islam, more hatred of it's adherents and less respect of anyone defending it.

Joey Macaroni (not verified): That's right! Who the hell wants these nut cases in their country? They're nothing but trouble and it's not worth the risk.

Uppsala is north of Stockholm., not south. And in Sweden the tolerant left is totally silent about this event, and, of course, it can never be mentioned in the media that the attackers are muslim (that would be islamophobic).

The extremists are at it again, but they seem to pick and choose. The viciously anti-Islamic book "How Fatima Started Islam: Mohammad's Daughter Tells It All" by the American author writing under the name of Noor Barack always gets a free pass. It is only sold by Amazon.com but there never has been a problem. In the satire Mohammad is depicted as a drunken, child molesting, pimp who cannot even run his business, 'Mohammad's Saloon & Brothel' well. Each and every tenet of Islam is mocked and the book is banned in Iran but other than that nobody ever protests. It is far more insulting than the cartoons.

Well... I think people in Sweden have too much of free time..I don't want my tax money to used for giving police protection to a lunatic like Lar Vilk who just wants some cheap publicity. There are other important issues in the world rather than drawing cartoon which result in nothing but chaos.

I think muslims are right in this way, they do not abuse any religious scholars of other religions nor they want other people abuse theirs...Who the hell Lars Vilks is to draw those type of pics... Can he do the same for his father, mother etc?

Criticism is good but finding out the best practices is more good. If we are so free and good in moral Why we try to find out the bad things, why not the good practices. Intentional criticism create chaos but publicity of good practices show the right way to lead life and create harmony. If we are civilized we should take lesson from past to be correct not to blame them who are past. I think Mr. lars Vilks is so poor in thinking that he cannot even give liitle value to a Dog. Where all over the world Dog is a pet animal, Mr. Lars think dog as a worst thing.. In my point of view we even cannot value an animal so how we can evaluate a human being Like Muhammad. Rather being aggressive all of us should learn at least to give value to animal than we will be able judge human.
