Las Vegas Tea Party on the Strip
November 21, 2009, Only a few hours before the slam dunk Democratic vote on moving forward with the Harry Reid Healthcare Bill, Nevadans were boldly expressing their discontent with Senator Reid on the Las Vegas Strip directly in front of Caesars Palace. Lots of enthusiasm, but extremely peaceful were all of those Patriots who came out to give speeches and display their own political signs. The Tea Party movements are growing around the country and Las Vegas is no different it seems. In late summer the Vegas Tea Party gatherings were not as energetic as the one on the Strip. It is obvious that Nevadans are not happy with all the Backroom Shuffling going on in Washington. Senator Harry Reid is up for election in 2010 and the people at this Tea Party proudly were wearing their DUMP HARRY REID signs. Interestingly enough, this protest was held in front of Caesars Palace where only a few months ago President Obama was the main speaker present to help Reid with a big fundraiser for his Senate race in 2010. By the looks of things at the Tea Party On The Strip, The Race Is On!

How many folks were there, watchdog?

Hugh, I would estimate between 500 to 700 participants mixed in among all the weekend tourists walking past the Caesars Palace location. Because of such strict county rules about blocking the sidewalks for an event like this, there was only a small space right in front of the fountains for folks to stand. (You can see them gathered in the video I attached to the story.) Police enforced the law that anyone on the sidewalk MUST keep moving or they could be arrested. Those carrying signs were peaceful and obedient as they walked up and down the pathway from The Mirage to the corner of Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd. If the event had been held in a larger venue like the one earlier in the summer, I am sure there would have been several thousand there. Please consider that finding a parking place so that a person could walk to join the rally is almost impossible on the Las Vegas Strip unless, of course, you valet your vehicle. I personally had to park a mile and a half away. So it was amazing how many did show up. The good news is that because it was held in public view on The World Famous Strip, thousands of tourists from all over the globe were able to see what the Tea Party People were trying to express. I am sure those who oppose the Tea Party protests would have preferred it had been held in a cow pasture ten miles outside the city where coyotes and vultures would have been spectators.
