Latest Abbotsford Shooting Looks Like Another Hit
A 36-year old Abbotsford man is dead after a shooting overnight, Abbotsford police Const. Ian MacDonald said.
MacDonald said the incident did not appear to be random and had all the "earmarks of a targeted hit."
Abbotsford Police were called to an area on Spallin Avenue, near Mount Lehman Road after being alerted by a 911 call.
The man was found in close proximity of a vehicle shortly after midnight. The male victim was known to police.
The Abbotsford Police Patrol Division, Major Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team are investigating the incident.
Rafe Arnott, a reporter with the Abbotsford Times, said media were being kept far away from the crime scene.
"There's a steady stream of onlookers passing by," said Arnott, who is at the scene. "People were shouting questions at the assembled press."
Although police say the victim was found near a black SUV, the only vehicle Arnott saw was a teal-green sedan that looked like a Pontiac Sunfire.
This latest killing is part of a wave of gang activity that has rocked BC in recent months. The Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley have already reported 46 homicides for 2009.
Recent suspected gang related killings in the Abbotsford area include:
• Angela Crossman
• Dilsher Singh Gill, 17, and Joseph Randay, 18,
• Sean (Smurph) Murphy, 21
• Ryan (Whitey) Richards, 19
