So how did Layton do in last night's english-language debate?  I watched most of the debate and thought he looked even more comfortable in this English version than he did previously.  He seemed to have no problem in answering all the questions in a clear, forthright way, and what he said made sense.  He did not seem at all intimidated by all the questions and arguments, and stayed true to his ideas and values.  I did notice that right after the debate some reporters gave him a hard time about why he thinks he has a chance to become Prime Minister, or his seeming attack on Dion during the debate where he questioned how someone who's party allowed most of Harpers legislation to pass in the House of Commons without standing up to the Conservatives could want to be Prime Minister of Canada; however, my own sense of that confrontation was simply that he wanted to remind Canadians that if you want someone to represent the majority of people in Canada (i.e. the middle/working class) than you ought not to forget that the Liberals had their chance to show leadership on a number of issues and failed to do so!

Overall, it seemed to me that he succeeded quite well in showing the type of Leadership that is needed.  Offcourse, this is up to how Canadian voters decide on October 14, and there are only 11 days left to go!  It will be a tough fight all the way to the polls that's for sure!

angelica_77777777, I like this story. It's good stuff.

I thought he did quite a good job too - he was always on the offensive and asked a lot of great questions and seemed to handle most things well.
Which I thought was a diffficult task when sitting around an oval table.

Thanks for the comments thus far!  Well, there are only eight days left in the campaign and time is running out but I have to hand it to Layton for fighting a good fight!  Let's face it, if our Electoral System in Canada was based on Proportional Representation, his Party would not be in 3rd place - but they could easily become part of the official oppostion due to the fact that in the PR system everybody's vote counts and there would be far more seats across the country!  I suspect that the Conservatives will end up with a Minority government and that is a big shame - but I admire Layton for sticking with his values and fighting on!

Well, it's really crunch time now!  Less than 5 days left of campaigning for Layton and the NDP.  Is there any hope for him now?  I think he's done very well during the past 5 days until now -- but I'm somewhat afraid that it's too late!  I wonder if the outcome would've been better for Layton if he'd found different ways to put out his vision.  Perhaps he explained things using the same language/wording a little too often; perhaps he could've used a little more charisma/and maybe some humour in order to look less drab!  That's just my take of his situation.  He's educated, he's smart, he would make a good leader ... but something was missing to really make him stand out!  We'll see what happens!
