The leader of the Abu Sayyaf, kidnappers of three International Committee on the Red Cross (ICRC) volunteers in Jolo(\hō-ˈlō) is now reported to be just slightly wounded. Albader Parad was first reported dead in an encounter with the Philippine military.

(Updated 11:53 a.m.) MANILA, Philippines - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has yet to verify whether Abu Sayaff commander Albader Parad - the leader of the group that holds hostage three International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) workers - was indeed killed in an encounter on Monday.

AFP Civil Relations Service chief Brig. Gen. Gaudencio Pangilinan, one of only three military officers authorized to speak to media about the ICRC abduction, said reports reaching the AFP leadership say Parad was indeed killed Monday morning, but that the AFP has yet to confirm this.

Reporter Arlyn Dela Cruz was quoted as saying she interviewed Parad.

MANILA, Philippines - A man who introduced himself as Abu Sayyaf leader Albader Parad gave a radio interview Tuesday afternoon to deny reports that he was killed in an encounter with government troops in southern Philippines last Monday.

A report in GMA News’ “24 Oras" said "Parad" was interviewed through phone by broadcaster Arlyn Dela Cruz in the Iglesia ni Cristo-run dzEC radio.

The report quoted Dela Cruz as saying that the phone number used by the caller was that of Parad, and that the caller’s voice was also that of the Abu Sayyaf leader.
