Bin Laden had joined the hill tribesmen in a war against the Russians the al-Qaeda movement however has no true relationship to the religious fanatical Taliban other than being funded from Saudi Arabia by certain members of the Saudi Royal family. The Taliban where only host to the Terrorist group al-Quada, we must never forget that the members of the 9/11 team of suicide group came from Saudi Arabia and not Afghanistan.

After Soviet forces left, a number of Afghan factions continued to fight for control of the country. In 1994, the hard-line Islamic Taliban emerged. By the late 1990s they controlled most of Afghanistan with their strict version of Sharia law.

The Taliban angered the international community by letting Osama Bin Laden, and other al-Qaeda members, live there.

In 2001, after the 9/11 attacks on the US, the Taliban refused to hand him over, paving the way for a new war.

That at present the al-Qaeda group are supposed to be in hiding close to the Afghanistan border and in Pakistan.

History of the Taliban and what they really are:

Recent years have seen the re-emergence of the hardline Islamic Taliban movement as a fighting force in Afghanistan and a major threat to its government.

They are also threatening to destabilise Pakistan, where they control areas in the north-west and are blamed for a wave of suicide bombings and other attacks.

The Taliban emerged in the early 1990s in northern Pakistan following the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.

A predominantly Pashtun movement, the Taliban came to prominence in Afghanistan in the autumn of 1994.

A real reason for USA wanting to tie the Taliban with al-Qaeda was to do with the proposed oil pipe from Iraq to Afghanistan to connect to the already completed Chinese pipeline part of my Global picture article and analysis November 27, 2007 concerning the Afghanistan and Iraq wars….

China is now seeking cost effective delivery of its future oil and gas requirements, at present China relies on its imported oil to be shipped by oil tanker this is not cost effective. China is now started to construct a series of cross-border oil and gas pipelines. In order to avoid 90 percent or so of its oil imports being shipped through the some what vulnerable Malacca Straits and of course pipelines are much more cost effective. Iran had a plan to pipe its oil through the proposed Trans-Arabia pipe line across Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan en-route to connect to the Chinese pipelines. China has already invested a fortune within the oil industry of the oil rich countries of the Middle east and is now concentrating on the Caspian sea projects.

Sanctions where placed on Afghanistan by US and the UN, it could be said to stop further development concerning oil and gas pipelines. Similar sanctions where placed on Iraq at the other end of the proposed oil pipeline

USA’s concerns about China’s energy needs plus the issues concerning US security can be glean from the 09/11/07 Transcript of the June 14-15 Hearing on " China’s Energy Consumption and Opportunities for U.S.-China Cooperation to Address the Effects of China’s Energy Use". On the http://www.uscc.gov/ site. In brief China’s oil requirement and it secured transportation, the expansion of the Chinese navy and arms manufacture and supply. There is only a slight concern over the fact that the Chinese government has $1.2 trillion in foreign currency reserves. There is however no mention of the oil pipelines.

Now I see this article today…

US Vice-President Joe Biden has told the BBC that the war in Afghanistan is in the interests of the US and the UK.

"It is worth the effort we are making," he said, warning that the terror groups on the border with Pakistan could "wreak havoc" on Europe and the US.

The number of foreign troop deaths has jumped recently, sparking questions in the UK over its involvement in the war.

Mr Biden suggested more sacrifice would have to be made during what he termed the "fighting season".

The Taliban are not going to wreck havoc anywhere other than with the British troops in Afghanistan and they are not al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda is in Pakistan. One only needs to  control the border and wait for the Pakistan Army to mop up their side where al-Qaeda is reported to be.

But to really stop al-Qaeda one needs to find and stop the funding from the members of the Saudi Royal family. That’s where the root of all this evil lies, but of course its more important to stabilize Afghanistan. To control the oil and gas pipes whilst all this is going on we now have Russia and China playing the oil and gas pipe game as indicated in the following article..

he Shanghai Cooperation Organization saw China and Russia begin their military exercise together on Wednesday. Under the code name "PeaceMission-2009", the drill will last five days, July 22-26.

The main focus of SCO is to counter the rising threat of separatism and extremism in Central Asia.

Analysts say that NATO without Russian and China is unable to deal with the Taliban and al-Qaida.

Its those damn oil pipes that cause the problem and the threat al-Qaeda funded from the oil and the Muslim capital of Saudi Arabia.

The world needs to wean its self off of oil and use renewable energy the sooner the better take the power away from the callous bastards just looking for power and profit. If we do not there will most defiantly be more oil and gas wars. More innocent people will be killed and maimed and we will always have soldiers fighting for the wrong cause.

At present British soldiers are fighting in a fight that was un-warranted from the very start now they have to finish and win if they can. No invading army has won in the terrain of Afghanistan. I expect that will be the out come once more.

The propaganda that if the Taliban is defeated in Afghanistan terrorism in UK and USA will be no threat is unfounded the Taliban are not Al-Quada and Al-Quada will still exist its real HQ is in Saudi Arabia where it is being funded.

The real reason for defeating the Taliban is to stabilize Afghanistan and secure and control the pipe lines and stop development of new pipelines to supply China.

interesting.

That's an interesting premise and analysis.  So where are China and Russia on this issue?  It seems to me, at least for now, Russia is supporting NATO's mission, both by  leasing aircraft for troop and equipment transport and helicopters.

Its all to do with this project and its security.

BEIJING. July 26 (Interfax) - Russia and China reaffirmed their willingness to construct an oil pipeline branch running toward China from the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean pipeline and the Altai gas pipeline, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) External Relations Director Zhang Xin told Interfax.

"What counts most is that negotiations between the corporation's management and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin reaffirmed the parties' willingness and desire to implement these projects, which are important to both countries," Zhang said following negotiations between Sechin and the CNPC management in Beijing on Saturday.

"Surely, there are still a lot of problems that require solutions, but it is very significant that the parties are willing to resolve them," he said.

The global oil and gas game is a very complex game, now we have Russia going to supply China with oil and gas. After USA stopped supply from Iraq going to China. Now here we have the Chinese and Russians worried about terrorism and uprising on their borders and within their own separate borders. Its to do with this oil and gas project and both countries sticking a dirty finger in the air to NATO and the USA. Concerning that China will be supplied and Russia has the complete contract.

On top of the fact that China is still expanding its infrastructure though its exports where culled by the orchestrated financial meltdown the military exercise was a bold statement China and Russia are winning the global oil game. But both are worried about terrorism and civil uprising especially near their border.

Sorry I did not explain my analysis within my quickly wrote article, wrote I add in anger over the statements made by USA vice president. Why not tell the truth and not make the fact that stabilizing Afghanistan and securing the borders of Afghanistan is the main plan, whilst Pakistan take on Al-Quada if the terrorist group can be found. Of course smart bombs and missiles will be employed as an aid to the Pakistan Army.

The British citizens have been lied to enough through the smiling lips of American politicians. The problem is really that not enough troops have been deployed to win this war in Afghanistan. No invading army has ever won the total war there, they also did not have the man power. Then why did America send the monkey and not his keeper to feed the propaganda and sweeten the British public that want our troops to come home now. We know its all about oil and gas the charade is over. We want the troops home!

Thanks for this Babel.  Interesting developments.  Please note that neither China and India are at the present interested in a binding carbon reduction program.  This assures that oil and gas will continue to occupy world politics for some time to come.

There have been major investments in oil pipelines in Alberta in recent years and I'm sure that they will be used.

Alaska is in the process of running a pipeline to the lower 48 through Alberta and there is also pipeline from Fort MacMurray to the West Coast, apparently to supply China with oil from the tar sands.

Personally I believe that Kyoto and soon Copenhagen are smoke and mirrors, with a totally different agenda globally.  I think deception is well an alive.

I agree deception is well alive and all ways was in this continuing Global Chess Game that often leads to small wars and some times to bigger ones. Its all about a power struggle and the struggle of retaining power or some power.  For the past hundred years or so its been geared to oil and fossil fuels and certain valuable minerals. Oil and gas have become more attractive within the game. Keep down the supply can restrict manufacture and growth and that's factor has been used as a tool to try to control the future of the Chinese Family of which seemingly just is not working and China's future can not be stopped because they have become too powerful. But the irony is China does not want to take reigns of power it wants to improve the lives of it families, the citizens of China. Its selflessness is inward and not outwards but that could change when China has fully modernized it self and eradicated its poverty. I expect that to take approximately 2 decades or more.

That EU will take over the reigns within a decade or less if USA does not take its finger out and become more popular as a real peace maker and not a culvert trouble maker.  It would seem Obama is trying to do that but I suspect culvert trouble making will not disapear over night.

The Taliban is not Al Qada. "We" know that.

The leader of the Taliban told bin-Laden not to attack the US because the Taliban had what they wanted in Afghanistan, and he knew that attacking the US would bring about a war and overthrow their system.

The Taliban make it possible for Al Qada to have a home. So, we go after them.

Al Qada is an extra-national entity, but they still need a home.

I don't know what the right thing to do is here.

But the real reason we fight the Taliban now is not an oil pipe line. We have so much oil off our coast in and in the Dakotas that it is actually mind-boggling.

The real reason we fight the Taliban is that if we don't, we are convinced that they will gradually take over Pakistan and gets their hands on nuclear missiles.

Somehow, such a thing does not promote a sense of well-being over here.

The more backwards and reactionary the religion, for me, the more likely that they will actually use those nukes.

Roy you missed the point its not how much oil is supplied to USA its all about the volume of oil and gas supplied to China. It was part of an effort to slow down China's growth and exports. Plan two was a planned world financial meltdown that still has not done the trick other than a short term slow down of China's exports.

China has not slowed down its development of infrastructure its concentrating more on its home consumer market and the market place nearer to home in Asia.  The only next step the West can take is to bring home the manufacturing base and go clean a green. Its not a factor of who owns the oil its a factor of who gets supplied the oil and how much. Oil and gas pipes leads to a higher volume of supply shipping limits supply and is more expensive.

The nuke situation is in Pakistan and not in Afghanistan and that was used as propaganda to get Pakistan to take action. Of which they where very reluctant as they already know about the problem of warfare in the mountains and bad terrain. Its better secure the flat lands of which these mountain tribesmen prefer not to fight on. The Taliban have never had the power to overwhelm the Pakistan Army. The Pakistan government and military advisers knew this that's why they had an agreement with the Taliban. Nothing is as its really seems Roy propaganda is the biggest tool to the politicians and the global chess game is a very complex one.

Lol...!

It is a fact that people love to read about conspiracy theories and break into cold sweat.  From a neighbor's view Pakistan has been nursing the wounds (physical and psychological ) suffered from the wars it lost with India. The immediate infidel country. They know better what will happen if they get into conventional war with India. So they resort into covert dirty war (not dirtying their hands, but by pushing jobless tribesmen to spread "Islam"). This "strategy" backfired and we really enjoy reading that "taliban attack Pak soil " stories. So much fun. They may not be claim to be Al Qaeda , but  the components are interchangeable.

Now, whoever want to have a good read about conspiracy stories, here is a sample firework for you.

Just for starters, Infosys is s well know Indian IT services provider. One of the pioneers in India's IT growth. Now read on.

With the talent pool available in Infosys, some experts predict it is possible to build an entire Naval Fleet complete with Battle cruisers capable of torpedoes equipped with Nuclear Warheads, Surface to Air ballistic missiles and self guiding ICBMs based on GPS systems. Why does Infosys have a mega bandwidth communication setup? It is believed that Infosys has accumulated enough computing power by not discarding its old used computers and assembling all of them in the underground parallel computing superlab at Infosys City. This parallel processing environment is said to be capable of 365 Teraflops which is much much higher than all the FBIs supercomputers pooled together. This kind of computing power it is said should be able to simulate Thermo nuclear Fusion and Fission in Hours instead of Months. Speculators go as far as to say, Infosys controls its stock prices in the market with an advanced modeling system capable of predicting stock prices upto the Next Century! The recruitment in Infosys is purely on merit unlike government organizations like the ISRO, NDA and DRDO who are plagued and crippled by the governments own reservation policies. Creating a mediocre talent pool with no real visionary skills.

Talibans are creation of CIA,ISI( of Pakistan) Saudi Arabia and, some where in background,MOSSAD.It was during Regan days that Saudi thugs, who are always in the pockets of US,intensified their hunt for fighters(Mujahidden) who could go to Afghanistan to fight against Russian troops. To cut the story short,Osama was indoctrinated by Saudi Intelligence in colloboration with CIA and despatched to Pakistan to receive traning.Pakistan under Zia-ul-Haque had acquired status of hotbed for training fighters with American arms and Saudi Money.

In 1984 or so,Ronald Regan received a delegation of fighter from Afghanistan, wearing turbans, sporting long beards and Regan introduced them to the press in these word:"they are Mujahideens fighting battle against Evil Empire, are moral equvalents of our Founding Fathers".Is it not an irony that these Moral Equivalents of Founding Fathers were declared most dreaded terrorists, now hounded and hunted by ingrateful Americans,Saudis and Pakistanis?

The story would have been different had Taliban agreed to Unicol's proposal to build a pipeline from Caspian Sea to Pakistan and India.Taliban had agreed but demanded rebuilding war devastated infrastructure like hospitals, roads and schools and open tap some where in Afghanistan for domestic use of gas. These demands were not acceptable to Unical,an American petrolium company.Bill Clinton was preoccupied with oral sex but was charitable enough to spare some time for Unicol.Taliban had an additional offer, apart from 100 million US$ per anum as fee, that if they allowed Unicol to build pipeline,US administration under joint trusteeship of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky would recognise Taliban government.Talibans were obdurate and not willing to budge an inch from where they stood for their demands. The whole thing fizzled out.

Bridal,a company registered in Argentina entered the fray to build pipeline and agreed to demands set by Talibans. This was not acceptable to US administration.

Now Talibans were enemy number one.Moral equivalents of Founding Fathers metamorphosed into enemy number one and then into dreaded terrorists.

At no point of time in history Americans would have dreamt that MORAL EQUIVALENTS OF FOUNDING FATHERS turn into monsters.May be American history is moving on like that.

roy, to keep safe paki nuke you just have to put barbed wire on the pak afghan border as pakis had demanded time and again in the days of mushrraif days and were ignored, and pay a few million dollars for education of pashtuns of paki side of border that at least every child could have access to school and pay for example 10$ a months for every  school going child as a guarantee that they will attend school for at least 7 or 8 years and you will not see any taliban like militancy intruding in pakistan for centuries i tell you,and calculate it is it more costly then the war expenses. Our future can be more safe much cheaply and with peace;but my question is that is it really U.S. wants and have reached there to do? My friend certinaly not ,she have come as her part of the great game replacing british empire, this is all filthy imperial war in guise of different name and excuses.and my indian friend above, iam sorry for him as he is cleary blinded by just for the hate of pakistan,if pakistan was part of india then he would be talking differently.
