Libyan Rebels Close in on Tripoli
Libyan Rebels Advance, Gaddafi Oil Chief Quits
Libyan rebel forces have taken the coastal city of Zawiya as well as Brega, home to important oil-processing facilities. The rebels are now within 30 miles of Tripoli, and fighting has been reported in the capitol's suburbs.
Omran Abukraa, Muammar Gaddafi's oil minister, has and gone to Tunisia instead of returning to Libya after a series of meetings in Italy. This has been confirmed by Tunisian officials. Also, Abdel Salam Jalloud, a longtime Gaddafi supporter who helped orchestrate the despot's rise to power, has also fled the regime.
While the demise of the Gaddafi regime has been predicted many times since February, this time it looks like Muammar Gaddafi is running out of options.
