Light In Darkness
Of all the disabilities, none has the dignity and is so moving like blindness; it exhorts our deepest compassion and feelings. Just do this: close your eyes completely and cover them with some thing, and imagine living every moment, every day, forever - like that. A very difficult situation indeed. The darkness; the not seeing any light at all; and being so helpless like that, and knowing that it will be so always - is the most difficult thing I can imagine happening to me or any one else.
Still, blindness has the kind of calmness and stillness that is almost impossible to achieve in any other situation; blindness too, commands a kind of awe and regards, that is very rarely given to other forms of disabilities and suffering. Many blind people in history have been known for their great wisdom and achievements; some in recent times and some, even today. Some of their achievements are, or have been considered, super human.
But then - many of us living human souls who 'see', are actually, indeed, very blind in our: ways, doings and behavior. Which is the worst form of blindness. To breathe; to be; to live and to have both eyes normal - but still blind! And still, in darkness.
Blind in our treatment: of Children; of our spouses and families; of our neighbors; of our fellow mankind; of our other fellow creatures; and of our environment and space. We do not see.
For, a person who really sees is an enlightened person who, not only has feelings, respect and considerations for all beings and creatures around him but - the place and space where he moves and lives in. It is only such a person who truly sees and has light.
