Edit: The New Colossus

With silent lips:

I am sorry to inform you that we no longer have capacity to accommodate all who want to enter here. If you think you possess skill, knowledge, and experience that will help strengthen America’s ability to compete in the global marketplace, take a place in the line to your right. If not, do an about face and march back up the plank.

We appreciate your wanting the breath of freedom, but you will have to work that out back home unless you can pay your way here.

You see, our shores are already teaming with illegal immigrants, so many we can’t process them much more we can't locate them.

Don’t send any more to us. The light at Lady Liberty is extinguished.

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Emma Lazarus, 1883”
