Singer Lily Allen has won damages from the Sun newspaper in London after they printed comments she made to a French Football magazine that never happened.

The newspaper claimed she made offensive remarks about David and Victoria Beckham, and Ashley and Cheryl Cole.

The amount awarded has not been disclosed.

Her solicitor told the court the article suggested she had made various offensive remarks about the two couples in an interview she had supposedly given to a French football magazine called So Foot.

But Allen had never been interviewed by or on behalf of So Foot and "she did not make these statements attributed to her by So Foot magazine".

News Group Newspapers have agreed to withdraw the allegations, apologise, and pay Allen damages and legal costs.

Glad to see the tabloids paying the price for making up a story.

A positive aspect of the UK system that we have but incompletely, ever since the Supreme Court decided that celebs can deal with lying on their own.
