Thursday's match is a repeat of the 2011 World Cup final which India won after beating Sri Lanka by six wickets in Mumbai.
India's team featured just three survivors from that match -- Dhoni and batsmen Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina.
Since the World Cup final, the Asian rivals have met in 10 one-day internationals, with India winning seven, Sri Lanka two and one match tied.
