Liverpool newsagent shot dead defending his shop - Mirror.co.uk
A shopkeeper in Liverpool has been shot by an armed robber as he tried to defend his shop.
A shopkeeper shot dead at his till had gone for a baseball bat to try to defend his small store.
Father-of-six Abdo Saeed Al-Selwi, 47, who was blasted in the chest, is believed to have been targeted by thieves at least three times since he took over the shop nine months ago.
Taxi driver Alan Faye, 56, who discovered Mr Al-Selwi in the Huyton district of Liverpool, said yesterday: "I found his body slumped behind the counter with a large pool of blood at his side. It was horrific. He had a baseball bat at his side. It looked as if he had reached for the bat and been shot and then staggered back a few paces. It was a terrible scene. I could tell that he was dead. He did not deserve to die like this, shot by some coward. He was a genuine bloke who worked all hours to scratch a living and send money back home to his wife and family. He had had his windows smashed and been threatened with a knife, but it did not stop him being determined to carry on. Now it seems he has paid with his life for standing up to some robber."
