Lockerbie Bomber to Be Released

The Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrah will be released by the Scottish government back to Libya. The decision angered victims, especially from the US.

White House says "the United States deeply regrets the decision" to release the Lockerbie bomber who killed 270 people. Press secretary Robert Gibbs said the US had repeatedly asked the government of Scotland to retain him in custody. Hillary Clinton, the secretary of state, said "the United States is deeply disappointed … Today, we remember those whose lives were lost on 21 December 1988 and we extend our deepest sympathies to the families who live each day with the loss of their loved ones due to this heinous crime."

Many families of the victims were outraged. 189 Americans died in the plane crash.

Susan Cohen, mother of Theo Cohen, a 20-year-old Syracuse University student killed in the bombing, described the release as "an absolutely disgusting disgrace".
Bob Monetti of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, whose 20 year-old son Rick was on the plane, said: "Personally I always thought compassion came just after somebody said 'forgive me,' and those are words I've never heard. Maybe some people are much more forgiving than I am."
“He has three months left to live, and he’s allowed to be with his family, which is three months we were not allowed,” said Bright.

Suse Lowenstein, of Montauk, New York, whose Alexander Lowenstein was killed at age 21, said of Thursday's news:

"It is so devastating and it is difficult for me to accept that the one man we had responsible for the murders of our son and the 270 victims in total is now going home to die in the arms of his family. It is just beyond comprehension.

"He has the luxury to be at home with his family, which our son did not have. He was murdered at the age of 21, and surely if he had to die he would have liked to die with us as well."

Abdelbaset al-Megrahi has advanced prostate cancer. Kenny MacAskill, the Scottish justice secretary, decided to release him on compassionate grounds.

David Cameron, the Tory leader, said the release as "wrong and the product of some completely nonsensical thinking."

After the plane took off, a statement by Megrahi was released in which he maintained his innocence. "I am obviously very relieved to be leaving my prison cell at last and returning to Libya, my homeland,"

"And I say in the clearest possible terms, which I hope every person in every land will hear: all of this I have had to endure for something that I did not do."

In contrast, many families of British victims supported the release, and some are unconvinced that Megrahi was the person responsible.

The Rev John Mosey, whose daughter Helga, 19, died in the attack, said it was "right he should go home to die in dignity with his family".

How nieve and out of touch with reality are the politicians voted in by us to represent us who make unbelievable decisions one after the other - this is exactly why the UK is going backwards when other countries forge foward.

Three words: Shame On Us

My presumption is that he won't be, nor remain a hero. And hopefully then, not a martyr. Time will tell.

The C.I.A. was responsible for the plane crash.  Col. Oliver North and international drug dealers should be in prison for this hideous crime.  The Bush Crime Family and Dick Cheney are responsible for the World Trade Center controlled demolitions and many assassinations including J.F.K.!!!  WAKE UP AMERICA and TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK FROM THESE EVIL MEN !!!!!
