Parents looking to jump the immigration queue have found yet another loophole in Canada's Immigration system. Enter the USA illegally, if caught, run and hide, but send your children to walk that lonely stretch of international road to Canada's border, while their parents skulk like Maggots abandoning their children.

Once the child enters the Canadian Border office, they are quickly processed, given food and shelter and schooling and medical care until they turn 18. At 18 they are considered for Canadian Citizenship.

Of course the day these Children who arrive in Canada are questioned on the whereabouts of their Family, country of origin etc, in most cases these children who previously could not remember their parents names, country of origin or whereabouts, suddenly remember everything once they attain citizenship in Canada. I guess Citizenship is good for Memory Loss when these children now Adults begin to sponsor their long forgotten Parents. Parents who abandoned them are now sitting and living in the USA Illegally or back in their own third world shit hole with their suitcases packed, eager to make a run for the (Canadian) border.

Certainly any parent of lost children, regardless of country of origin would make a concerted effort to find them. Some in Canada believe children from these countries,are oppressed, though it belies their stupidity, as most of us know many students under the guise of "visa'd " students never intend on going to a Canadian school, but disappear from the Canadian radar once they step off the plane and make their way to New York. Apparently there are some Unscrupulous Immigration Consultants on both sides of the border and in third world countries who coach the parents and kids before they enter Canada, thus playing a part in all this and these Immigration Consultant deserve Swift Remington Justice!

Canada and the US have always been played as Suckers when it comes to the Kid Glove Treatment of Illegals, Democrats, Liberal politicians have consistently fought to maintain the status quo, in order to favour the ethnic vote, regardless that immigrants who patiently wait in line are ethnic and sitting on their suitcases at home for years looking to live the American Dream. Some get here, by hook or by crook, and now use their own children as bait! Seems strange, cause if a Canadian abandoned their children there could be jail time and other legal troubles awaiting us, yet when Scum parents from third world countries do this, and once they get sponsored by their long lost children to suck off the Canadian Welfare Teats for a lifetime, these immigrant parents face no criminal charges. Very strange indeed!

Who ever said to "Live the American Dream", never got a Free Ride on the Canadian Gravy Train.

As for parents who misuse children this way, are the lowest of the lowest Scum of the Earth, The best revenge would be the Children abandoned, once they grow op, see how opportunistic their parents are and abandon their parents and continue as Canadians and cut all ties from their parents, leaving the parents stranded back in the country forever.

Canada has to stop being preyed upon and seen as All Day Suckers! I say keep the kids, but a caveat that they cannot sponsor anyone into this country. That would show the world and these Scammer we are not as Stupid as they take us for.

Barry the article stats that "A lot of these people (children) have been through hell," Brown-Cashdollar said. "Most of them are easily accepted in Canada." Does are not bad people nor ill minded, but rather desperate and in great need of help and support.Further 4000 per annum is a drop on a hot stone.Do you have any Idea how many people are being displaced and become refugees because of wars, famines, politics, persecutions and others through out the World?Canada is one of the Richest Countries on earth and can handle a few refugee and show some compassion toward Humanity and there fellow Man.Desperate people have to do desperate things in order to survive and insure their children's future.Most of those Refugee had no choice.

I then ask you, what about the legitimate refugees waiting for years in the same predicament who are left in these countries. Do you think it is fair some families who have the cash and means to fly to North America, while others languish in refugee camps, are they not as deserving but because they have no money to get here are their lives not as valuable? I also feel those who let their countries become pits of despair need to stay and make their countries better instead running away from the problem or relying on North Americas sons and daughters to die for them , and funny most of these same people despise us as weak and decadent, but really, really like the aid money in the billions of dollars we provide. Time for the people in these countries to start fighting back, improve their lot in life, sitting doing nothing except escape is not a life but a choice they made. For the record in my time with CCRA most are economic refugees, whose live were never in danger, thus screwing over the refugees whose lives are constantly in danger. We have had many so called Visa Students from Asia. particularly China, who once off the plane disappear and are never seen again, though most likely they made their way to New York, as stated on 60 minutes. Time for North America to pull up its bootstraps, get with the program and close the sieve that is illegal immigration in this country. Immigration is for true Refugees, not those who have the cash to Scam us and them in war torn countries. But I thank you Paschen, your comments are always greatly appreciated. :0)

I wasn't aware that people were sending their kids off as refugees. I expect this will become an even greater issue in the future.

Being abandoned as a child is something they seldom recover from. But if parents are this desparate and cannot get assistance in their country of origin, perhaps they view this as the only hope for their children. And sending them to a country like Canada where they will be cared for humanely and even considered for citizenship eventually is complimentary to Canada.

eastvanray, Pakistan is the country that welcomes the largest number of refugee each year with over a million, followed by Germany in second place and Iran in third place.

Canada make only number 15 place in the raking of welcoming refugees and this with less 200,000 per year.

Hum, When I see that Canada's GPP is far greater then Pakistan or Iran even Germany's GPP is bellow that of Canada, making Canada one of the World richest Nation and one of the World Nation doing the least for Refugees as well.

Canada can ill afford to care for others when it is clearly having a tough time caring for its own. It does not make sense to bring in more people when its citizens are doing without.

Trust me Barry, Canada is still rather well off compared to most places in the world.

I hope that Canadian will never be in a position where they may need help.

When You see Countries like Pakistan that have very little compared to Canada and do far more for refugees then Canada does. It is shocking and makes one wonder who is more humane.

Yes, Canada is still a well of counrty and still has some decent 'western' values (like food, water and medicine for it's citizen, education, a bit care for elders etc. There is nothing wrong in helping refugees. But the problem with the whole rotten system is that instead of the needy , terrorists get the most benifit out of this. They push and dump their young cadres and once they grow up eating Canadian food, they somehow make way to the rest of the terrorists to the country. The ultimate aim is to make Canada a country like Pakistan or Afghanistan.

The terrorists must be thanking their lucky stars that Canada is one of those countries that still has a lot of livining communists (just next to France ) who are ready to decry attempt to content these terrorist activities in the name of "freedom of speech".

A few months ago I saw an interview with a Syrian official who was asking for help from the international community to help with the refugees flocking to his country from Iraq. He stated many were professionals who were systematically reduced to fleeing their own country because their jobs and positions had been robbed from them during the early American occupation. When asked by an audience questioner if they would turn anyone away, he said "no." He said they would do the best they could to provide housing, health care, and education for the children; however, he did emphasize the strain on their small economy.

Aid is one thing a211433, illegal immigration is another, Aid to help those I have no problem with, but when one bites the hand that feeds them, clothes them, houses them and saves their lives and the lives of their families, I have a problem with that. I do not expect them to give North Americans a shower of love, candy kisses and eternal gratitude for what we do, what I do expect is a smattering of loyalty to the people who helped them, flag burning and deceit and degrading our North American culture as weak and decadent I have a problem with. Case in point the Khadr family, who constantly deride Canada as weak and inept, yet they have no problem collecting social services and payments from Canadian Taxpayers. It is the same as many who once here, get their citizenship and head back to their war torn or unstable countries, using Canadian Citizenship as a safety net, once shit hits the fan and then they plead for Canada to get their ass out of the middle east, like what happened a year ago when Canada sent ships to the middle east to evacuate Canadians, some of these so called Canadians had not lived in Canada for over 2 decades. I put it this way, where is the loyalty, smell like an opportunistic scam to me.

We have many who came here from Hong Kong in the mid to late 1980s fearing Chinas takeover would be a death knell for Hong Kong citizens, they immigrate here, get their citizenship, once China takes over, they find the status quo never changed, so they moved back, but took their canadian citizenship as a safety net, some have not been back to Canada, but rest assured when they become seniors our Government Taxpayer paid healthcare, social security, old age pensions sure look attractive to supplement their hong kong incomes.

You tell me if thats fair?

I thought we were discussing refugees, not illegal immigration. From my perspective there is a difference. I understand your frustration with those who enter your country and reap the benefits and then leave. Taking advantage of a system the way you describe it is, indeed, unfair practice. However, since you cannot control the influx of people, perhaps there should be limitations on immigration that include strict residency requirements in order to collect benefits. I have a Canadian friend who worked here legally in the IT industry for ten years. He would be considered high income, i.e., over 100K/year. He paid taxes, social security, workmans comp, etc.; however, he is not eligible for any of the benefits to which he paid into because he is not a citizen. Personally, I thought this was terrible. If someone lives here for that long and is a working productive citizen, then they should be able to qualify for the protections.

Actually, he was offered a better position in Austria, and has just left the U.S. Surprisingly, he is not bitter about the inequities, but he believes the system in this respect is flawed. His specific expertise as a computer architect is unique, and he has never lost a job based on outsourcing. He was told by the CEO at his last job to hire only people from India for his team because they can be told to work 12 hours a day if necessary, and their wages are much lower which we already know. : (

The Third World Countries have to fix their own affairs and stop relying on North American aid and handouts, otherwise there is no incentive for them or their governments to improve themselves. We have been sending Aid to some countries in the billions of dollars every year for close to 50 years, nothing has changed, they still will not get their heads out of their Asses and effect change. That poor little me Line they spout has jaded many to continue to support them. As well it is a fact many of these third world countries are vastly corrupt for the last 50 years as well. Keeping aid money for themselves or as a control tool for their people. Control by starving them into submission, Stalin did, and others followed. TIme to give a timeline to these countries and state STRONGLY, on this Date, the Teats are turned off and you are on your own. Tough times call for tough measures. Terrible yes, but it is the only way they can learn to be self sufficient. India did it, China did, though not perfect they are better than many countries.

The adage of Teach a Man to Fish is certainly Lost on the majority of these third world countries!

No, it's not fair. Life isn't fair. It's just reality. Unless of course you want to send battalions of rescuers out to these "3rd World" countries (love the continual use of that antiquated term) to scoop up these poor souls and deposit them into the arms of "1st World" knighted safety.

Canada needs to get its act together and deal fairly and efficiently with "legitimate" immigrants so that people aren't forced to this sort of thing.

It might help if we could put a little more effort into actually recognizing international degrees. Shame on us for forcing doctors and engineers to drive cabs. It's not like we couldn't use more doctors and engineers.

Canada does not force any foriegner to do anything, sir! If someone is luckey enough to be allowed to come to our country and is stupid enough not to have done the most basic research into their employment prospects the solution lies not with the Canadian Government or the Canadian people. If someone is smart enough to become a doctor then I would assume they are smart enough to check out the country they are choosing as their new home. If they are not that smart then I do not want then practicing medicine on me or my family. We do not need foreign doctors. We need Canadian doctors. The solution lies within our universities: train more professionals.

Damn Straight Eastvanray, after all if they are highly educated, you would think they would have some worldly knowledge about the world, including using the internet, Hence my long standing stance, before one comes here our government needs to provide immigrants information on everything Canadians are about, and provide this information into pamphlets in every embassy in every country on earth, Then if immigrants feel our culture is not to their liking or their religious beliefs are contrary to our cultural values, loyalties, modes of dress in public, food etc then they have the chance to rethink elsewhere besides Canada as a place to live. Local Town Councilor Andre Drouin, from Herouxville, Quebec and the citizens of this small town, had the right idea on all the above and tried to futility to assist the Canadian Government in providing more information to immigrants and what Canada is all about and what is acceptable and what is not. Needlessly to say it fell on deaf ears, until the Premier of Quebec almost lost his position when it became and election issue, Canadians spoke and policitians fearing losing their lucrative jobs finally listened and in part are starting the process, though slow, it will come, thanks to Andre, the citizens of Herouxville and a large contingent of Canadians.

Did you read about a couple who sued a large supermarket chain in Coquitlam because they were not told sausages contain pork? What? You Live under a friggin Rock? They only found out after eating it, were distressed because their religion forbids it and were awarded 5K in court, they were under the assumption stores in Canada are all Halal stores, like in the old country, pretty sweet award for not learning English and Canadian Culture I guess.

Lets hope they don't watch Bugs Bunny Hour and see Porky Pig, or Donald Duck without pants on, I am sure BC Lefty money grubbing asswipe lawyers and judges would be petitioning Warner Bros and Disney for a few Grand for insulting some culture.

Meanwhile lefty courts release hardened criminals every day, you would think BC judges would have better things to do with their time.

I know that in the opinion of many Americans, the amount of illegal immigrants entering their country has gotten way out of hand. And the situation is causing animosity on both sides of the issue.

I agree with Barry on a number of his points. But with that said, I can't blame anyone from a "third world shit hole" (Barry's description) for doing whatever they can to get themselves and their children out of countries like that in order to have a better future for themselves and their children. I'd do the same if given the chance.

However, if a workable solution to the "illegal immigration" problem isn't put in place soon, there's going to be a terrible backlash on the part of millions of citizens that are fed up with their politician's (on both sides of the political spectrum) refusal to address this very real issue.And it will make what occurred recently at town hall meetings look like a Sunday picnic. The gentleman in New Hampshire, at the town hall meeting, with the gun strapped to his leg was making a bold statement. And I suspect that millions share his sentiments . . . .

Thanks Rory, one other point I have always stressed in my article Op.Ed pieces, is people saying we are a rich country, true, but then so is Saudi Arabia who have more money than God, since they are also Muslim and believe in Islam one would think the Saudis would part with some of that wealth and help out their fellow Muslims! They could cure the Palestinian conflict with the writing of a cheque and help out other countries in the middle east who are their kin when speaking religiously, But it doesn't seem to be happening, I guess the Saudis when it comes to parting with their Trillions of Dollars, the Saudis are more tight fisted than the Scots!! If the Saudis helped out financially,and provided much needed infrastructure like they have done in their own Country of Saudi Arabia, they would still have a couple of trillion dollars left over, If they helped their neighours around them. I bet most people in the middle east would not be so desperate to immigrate to the west.

Funny how Islam hates Christians in the West, when it is Christians who are providing all this Financial aid, manpower and our lives to ensure the mid east stability. The Saudis's it seems are content to stay silent in the background, smoke their hookahs, marry a few dozen women and go yachting. Of course unless the Saudis get invaded by their neighboring brethren, then it is a quick call on their Gold Plated Diamond Encrusted Cell Phones to the West to save their sorry asses! One would think the Saudis would also pay for all the Wests Military expenditures since they called us to protect them.

Guess what? Saudis in the Iraq invasion didn't pay squat compared to the trillions the USA had to pay to protect them! How is that for a Kick in the Crotch!
