Louann Bowers and Sinhue Johnson Arrested for Child Endangerment Over 5 Hidden Children
York County, Pennsylvania couple Louann Bowers and Sinhue Johnson were arrested after authorities found five children hidden from society in the couple's rundown house. The chilren, aged between 2 and 13, were living without running water or electricity, and had no borth certificates or immunization records.
The house in which the children were raised was condemned, and the family had taken refuge in a hotel. Louann Bowers and Sinhue Johnson have each been charged with five counts of child endangerment. Louann Bowers gave birth to a sixth child shortly after she was jailed.
Case workers at York County Children and Youth Services learned about the children after receiving anonymous phone calls, Utley said.
The calls prompted workers to investigate the area; they alerted police after discovering the squalid conditions in which the children were living, he said.
According to the criminal complaint, Children and Youth Services had received anonymous information in 2003 and 2007 that Johnson and Bowers had numerous children living in their home in the 700 block of South Duke Street, but in both cases authorities were unable to determine if the children existed because Johnson refused to cooperate.
