A janitor who allegedly shot and killed the principal of a Northern California elementary school was being held Thursday without bail, authorities said.

John Harold Luebbers, 44, who worked at Louisiana Schnell Elementary School in Placerville, was taken into custody Wednesday at his El Dorado home shortly after allegedly killing principal Sam Ronald Lacara, said officials with the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department.

Officials took custodian John Leubbers into custody at this home shortly after the shooting, which took place at about 10:30 a.m., police said


The Louisiana Schnell elementary school is on lockdown in Placerville, CA , all the students are safe but the suspected gunman is still at large, news reports say.

Officials said there was one adult victim, who was taken to nearby Marshall Hospital for treatment.

Capt. Larry Marinas of El Dorado County Fire said the school is on lockdown. The campus is located at 2871 Schnell School Road.

The shooting reportedly occurred at 10:40 am PST. Police say every available officer is being deployed.


Police are looking for a white Dodge pickup truck with the license plate of 6LMP703. Authorities are looking for a man described as blond and wearing a grey jacket and blue jeans. He was said to be short and stocky.

I dont know what the school officials or police were thinking jeopardizing all of these children and teachers after the school had been shot up two nights in a row! And all the parents that sent their kids to school today I hope everyone learned a major lesson in taking precautions now someone may be dead maybe we will think first next time!
