Louisiana Shootout: 2 Deputies Killed
5 Arrested after Louisiana Trailer Park Shootout
Five people are in custody after a deadly shootout in LaPlace, Louisiana.
At around 5:30am on August 16, 2012, an off-duty Sheriff's Deputy who was working a security detail for Valero Energy was shot in a parking lot. Four other deputies followed the shooter's car to a trailer park in St. John the Baptist Parish.
When the deputies entered the trailer where the suspected shooter had holed up, they found two people, and asked them to step outside.
When the two inside the trailer emerged, the deputies were ambushed by a third man, who opened fire with an assault rifle. Two deputies were killed and another wounded.
In the ensuing shootout, both of the suspects were wounded and taken into custody. Five people were arrested in the LaPlace shootout; it's not yet clear who the other three were.
The deputies killed were Brandon Nielsen and Jeremy Triche. Wounded were Jason Triche (apparently not related to Jeremy Triche) and Michael Boyington.
