LTTE allies Sets Fire to Toronto Buddhist Vihara
LTTE Supporters Set Fire to Toronto Maha Vihara
May 16, 2009 03:02 pm
Toronto Mahavihara inScarborough has been set on fire by suspected Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) supporters a short while ago.
Also, the Sri Lanka Mission in the Hague, the Netherlands has been attacked also by LTTE supporters. It is reported that Molotov Cocktails have been hurled at the mission.
The LTTE is notorious for attacking Buddhist Temples in Sri Lanka. They attacked and partially destroyed the Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the Tooth, where a tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined. They also went in a bus, fully dressed in uniform to Sri Maha Bodhiya and indiscriminately killed over 150 laymen and monks who had gone there to worship.
Both these places of worship are revered by Buddhists all over the world. LTTE's counterpart supporters attacking Temples in foreign countries can't be anything new to their agenda.
Failing to enter the Sri Lanka Mission a few days ago, the LTTE supporters tried fire bombing the building.
Details about both attacks will be published as soon as more details are available.

They also attacked the International Buddhist Centre at Le Bourget in Paris on Sunday 10th May, and the Kingsbury Buddhist Temple in London on Wednesday, 13th.
During Vesak in 2000, displaying typical LTTe 'bravery', a suicide bomber killed 23 and injured 70 at a Buddhist temple in Batticaloa.

Good and exemplary words Mr. Jayasekara.
But I think Canada should be seriously worried. Let alone the Sinhalese, the peaceful Tamils in Toronto have complained that they live in fear.
at 11:41 on May 16th, 2009
That is what I am afraid of. After the terrorists are run off, they have to go somewhere. I fear they are already in Canada, especially when I hear about the aggression happening in Toronto. We welcome peaceful demonstrations without hurting any one or anything, but this feels like a time bomb ready to go off.

Good one, Sara Star
On analysis, you will notice that more Tamils denounce the terrorism waged by the LTTE than not. Unfortunately, they are also terrorized by the LTTE supporters. We have heard of LTTE front offices in some countries getting stoned by peace loving Tamils who opposed the LTTE and its agenda and were oppressed by LTTE supporters.
It's a long process, but Tamils and Sinhalese will live in harmony without the menace of terrorism.

This harmony cannot come any time too soon. Enough already, tamil tigers, you lost, stop punishing everyone. This will get you nothing but no refuge.

As a Buddhist I oppose all violence and support with compassion, the immediate removal from Canada those who would support acts of suffering, and the destabilization of Canada's unity.

Don't get upset. I'm sure Haroon Siddiqui of the Toronto Star will explain to you how wrong you are in his next column when you blame this on the peace-loving LTTE and their supporters.

Well said Andy (Not verified)
We know how peace loving the LTTE and their supporters are. You may have read the book - How to Live in Total Peace and Harmony - By Velupillai Prabhakaran.
If Peter says anything wrong again, I will report him to the United Nations!

From CityNews.ca:
"Our monks got threatening phone calls [with] someone using very bad language - filthy language - on them," revealed the temple's VP Bandara Seneviratne. "I feel that because of the situation back home, things are being escalated."
See video of temple, plus Saturday night's candlelight vigil in Toronto.

This is what can happen when liberalised immigration policies let terrorists into the country. We need to stop immigration until we can get control of who comes and who is told to stay out. We also need to deport anyone with ties to known terrorist groups. That way when people immigrate into our country those who drove them from their homelands do not came here and torment them.
Next election remember that the liberals caused these problems and the NDP supported them in it. When you vote a liberal you vote for a terrorist supporters.

This is an act by desperate loosers. I am a Tamil living here in Toronto, and feel ashamed of this barbaric act by some desperate loosers. We will work togather to re-build this temple, and make this place as a symbol of unity or all Sri lankans.
There are an estimated 300000 Tamils in Toronto, and even the biggest crowd for the demonstartions were less than 15000. So it is less than 5%. But, this small number may be making the louder noise. Although it is hard to control the emotions, I ask the people affected by this barbaric act to be patient and not to direct the anger against the whole Tamil community. That is one thing the criminals who did it want to acheive. Let us not fall for that trick.

Well said my Tamil brother.

The LTTE is notorious for attacking Buddhist Temples in Sri Lanka and so are other factions in the middle east or far east and there's nothing we as (alone) individuals can do about it!

A couple people got pissed off and burned down a temple.
It is not at all a commentary on the hundreds of thousands of Ceylon Tamils in Canda.
If Sinhala feel that unsafe in Toronto I sugest they go back to Sri Lanka.
I'll even chip in with a one way ticket if they don't come back!
at 19:21 on June 11th, 2009
Nobody said that all Tamils were bad. There are very very good Tamil people. It is the cowardly terrorist supporters who should be hounded out.
Also, if there are Tamils (over 400,000 in Canada) and any other Sri Lankans in Canada want to come back, they are welcome.
If Sinhala feel that unsafe in Toronto I sugest they go back to Sri Lanka.
After all those protests and thuggery by the LTTE supporters, the Canadians in Canada also feel unsafe. Do you think they should go to Sri Lanka too? Or, is it better to send all Sri Lankans on the dole back to Sri Lanka.
