May be the daughter was willing to let it go, but the son still feels the pain of his farther's assassination. Rahul Gandhi, the son of the Former PM Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated by a suicide bomber in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu India, on May 21, 1991, had this to say to the reporters. Rahul was just one month shy of his 21st birthday at the time of the assassination.

Terming the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) a terrorist group, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi said here on Wednesday that the “LTTE has killed my father.”

Responding to queries on the Congress’ tie-up with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), which was known for its support to the LTTE, an emotional Mr. Gandhi told reporters that “Am I sad or worried? I am not sad or worried... I am not particularly fond of the LTTE myself.”

Earlier, in March 2008, Rahul's sister Priyanka Vadra met Nalini Sriharan, serving a life sentence for her role in Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, in Vellore Central Jail on March 19, 2008.

Mr. Rahul Gandhi is taking out his revenge on Tamils?

That's why the Indian Army is bombarding and shelling the Sri Lankan Tamils alongside with the Sri Lankan Army?

Just wondering, if Mr. Rahul Gandhi can decide to kill so many Tamils, over 3000 so far, to revenge LTTE, would not Mr. Rahul Gandhi be the worst terrorist?

I think he is refering to the LTTE which is a terrorist organization and why always people conect tamils with LTTE. it is like All tamils ate LTTE. Please this is wrong. All tamils are not LTTE and Every time it is mad to see LTTE is refering to the whole tamils. This is the same thing everybody putting up even the Tamil Nadu government.

I think as well knowledgeable humans, terrorist and normal public diferent should be identified. so LTTE does not maens Tamils they are terrorist as they will always use to be.

It is one way to keep wars going, I think his sister is much wiser and he should learn from her.

Yet he does not say any thing hateful nor revengeful, all he said was that he was not fund of the LTTE and that sentiment is chaired by many more, yet a separate issue from the Tamil them self and their rights as a people.

@Paschen >
You are making a very grave mistake if you try to even imply Prabhakaran and the LTTE are doing any favour to the Tamils of my country.

You have no idea what majority of Tamils living in the south feel about what LTTE has done to them. Northern and Eastern people have suffered for decades, loosing everything they have, their children, everything for the dream of Eelam by Prabhakaran and the Diaspora. Do not confuse what the LTTE and the Diaspora wants, with what the Tamil citizens of my country wants.

Please read abt what Tamil citizens feel abt the issue.

You need to read with an open mind and not be clouded with paranoia, I would never imply that the LTTE is even remotely helping any one or good for any one, it is a terror organization as the IRA or the RAF are as well.

That being said I do not confuse Tamil rights with LTTE or SL propaganda or agenda.

Two very distinct issues here. There are several approaches possible and SL chose the most violent one to resolve a problem. There is always another way.

Ask your self the question what would you do, think, feel or want where you born a Tamil or a Palestinian or and Irish Catholic from NI. Always put your self in the other person show before casting stones for they may recoche right back at you.

I can do that Paschen. Put myself in the shoes of the Sinhalese, Muslims, Tamils who have suffered.

Also it is possible for me to listen to scores of Tamils living in Sri Lanka, who agree that the LTTE should be eliminated. Maybe you have never heard their voices.

As for the Govt "choosing" the violent way to solve it, what can I say to you? After trying for 25 years to solve this in various different ways, which involved 6 major cease fire periods, each of which the LTTE deviously while not keeping their end of the bargain, used those periods to go from strength to strength with the help of the Western countries, all the while immensely harassing the Northern and Eastern Tamil people, abducting the children, training them to kill, etc, etc, etc, the list just goes on.... Words fail me - I honestly don't know how to answer such a narrow minded question.

I suggest you practice what you preach and try to be a bit more open minded. Your open minded solution is to let the people suffer for another 50 years the way they suffered in the last 30 years I guess. Unless you have a miraculous solution as to get Prabhakaran to suddenly respect negotiations that nobody was able to make him to for 25 years.

Well, where I come from we went through that and ended up shedding a lot of blood.

In the end no one wins. Justice, equality and freedom of expression are the base for peace failing that we will always have conflicts.

I do not judge nor condone any one here, But I know from my experience that war will not solve conflicts, even in Afghanistan the fighting is useless for it will not end, not even once one party can claim victory, for the problem causing it have not been solved and it will start anew.

Every Country know Terror Groups and terrorist, yet in some those are successful and in others they are not, because of the people them self. If the people are contend and live in just society they will not ever support terrorist nor let them get a hold on the fabric of that society, look at Germany and the RAF, or France and FLN no chance for those terror Groups, however in other areas they find a footing because the people at large feel anger or discrimination, Injustice.

Where I grow up and lived was no different, corruption and discrimination lead to civil unrest and frustration and terror groups took over. It is a long and hard road once the fabric it self has been torn apart by terror to fix it and war does not fix it, it only puts a lid on it for a period.

Justice and equality as well as Liberty do work best for all. I know the LTTE has to lay down arms and be taken out, however a new LTTE will rise up if the problems are not dealt with and fixed.

I have nothing to disagree with you there. Only difference is that I know the situation here a bit more clearer than you since I live here. People outside keep ignoring what the moderate Tamils in Sri Lanka say, outsiders prefer to believe the rubbish the LTTE is feeding into various quarters and gets promoted on the internet. And repeated over and over by the Diaspora.

Sri Lanka is a small country and in such a place as this everybody knows everybody, well almost. Our sources of information is not exactly the internet as for most people. Therefore I have more than enough hope and belief that all citizens (of course there are the edge cases) with one voice want the LTTE to be eliminated. Yes, mostly the resident Tamils want that. Once it is done, you will have your chance to watch and see what happens.

This is an election gimmic Paschen. If he fels so strongly about his fAther's death why is congress party supporting DMK party in  Tamil nadu is considered as LTTE Supporters. In politics anything is possible Paschen especially Indian Politics. It is sad that he has remebered that on the wake of elections. His father was a great visionary and because of him the computer revolution happened in India.

Me too checked many news sites. No where he expressed any hate at tamils. It is not for everyone to like the killers of their father. It is personal thing.

Please read on...

Gandhi, however, said that India was doing its best to protect Tamil civilians caught in the conflict between the LTTE and the military in Sri Lanka's north. "We are trying to help the situation there," he said.

Yes Agent, he has not expressed any hatred for Tamils.

Assumptions, assumptions....

And somebody somewhere called me "judgmental" just a while ago :-)

When power alone is your first priority, all these moral contradictions are but a small nuisance.

So I'm not surprised about the Congress-VKC tie up.

In politics anything can be done. it does not matter who did what? specially In India. I have seen from my own eyes what happened in the Gujrat and how the election went up? even today the chief minister of Gujarat is the one who kept silence and mass merdered Muslims during that riots in Gujarat. So politics can forget the families as well as the qualities of a person.

One cannot forget how wisely Rajiv made the decision to send indian peace keeping force and established peace in life of Tamils !!!

tharsi

lets not forget. when the indian peace keeping force went to srilanka 8000 tamils we killed.......... rajiv gandi ordered another indian army general to kill LTTE leadre under the white flag.......... and to this day there has been no creditable proof that the LTTE killed rajiv gandi.............india should stop pointing fingers with out any evidence............. indian forces are now in sri lankan using chemical bombs which killed over 1500 people in one day,,,, on average 200 people per day are being killed.............

thats a good point, Indians have been playing a double game. first they had been supporting the LTTE, by dropping suplies in Sirilanka for Tamil fighters. but when the Tamils in India also stood up Rajev decided to send his army. but failed to achieve anything and was sent packing back.

Rajev paid with his life for playing with the affairs of another country and a race. just like his mother Indra Gandhi did by her atrocities to Sikhs.

if i kill an indian i will be caught and sent to court, high court, then supreme court. rajiv gandi trial never passed the first stage,,,,,,,,, ever wonder why?

I just want the bloodshed to end in Sirilanka. every Sirilankan I have met I have found to be the courteous and this view is shared by anyone who has met them.

for a small country its people have paid a big price. voilence must end on both sides

Dear All,

I read some of the comments. I feel that if India start supporting the organisations like LTTE and others who all are fighting for some cause then we will end up being another Pakistan. Do remember that all the extremist outfits are nothing less then another terror outfit. They are going to destroy the country. The monster which Pak has created is difficult for them to handle. So be aware that we dont get into the same situation. Its better to have democracy and stay away from any extremist organisation or people following them. If you want to have peace and stability in "our country" then just ignore these issues and stay away from them.

Yours loving Indian.
