With the increase in attacks by Naxalites on the Indian security forces in recent months a circular has been issued by the Indian CPI (Maoist) politburo asking its Naxalite cadres to learn from the LTTE’s “mistakes” in Sri Lanka. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called them “the biggest threat to India’s internal security.”

It says: “The LTTE’s mistake lay in its lack of study of the changes in its enemy’s tactics, capabilities, international support and open assistance by imperialist powers, ie., an underestimation of its enemy along with an overestimation of its own forces and capabilities.

Naxalites in India have been one of the greatest threats to the Indian National Security.

The Naxalite movement takes its name from a peasant uprising which took place in May 1967 at Naxalbari – a place on the north-eastern tip of India situated in the state of West Bengal. It was led by armed Communist revolutionaries, who two years later were to form a party – the CPI (M-L), or the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist). Under the leadership of their ideologue, a 49-year old Communist, Charu Mazumdar, they defined the objective of the new movement as 'seizure of power through an agrarian revolution'.

Although the Naxalite movement started in India in 1960, the Indian Government has not been able to contain this movement. With the statements made about the LTTE and its fall, it can be safely assumed that the Naxalite movement has no idea of stopping their activities in the near future.

Santhosha Siriwane.

communism is (does not matter the the varieties like leftism, left liberalism, maoism) just another name for jealousy. Since most of the people are jealous of their neighbor's wealth and the grass on the other side is always greener, these kind of organizations grow eating inferiority complex flourish all over the world. LTTE was born our of inferiority complex. So is the Maoist terrorists.

Same fate is awaiting them.
