LTTE’s Women’s Political Wing Head Thamilini Arrested
The LTTE’s women’s political wing head Subramaniam Shivathai, alias Thamilini, was taken into custody yesterday. The arrest was done by a special police team, at the IDP camp in Vavuniya. Thamilini was in the camp with her mother Subramaniam Gowri Wijayaraja and a sister Maheshwari. Thamilini’s another sister, Santhilan, had been killed in 1998, during a clash with the security forces in Paranthan.
Thamilini and her family members had come to the government controlled area with the people escaping from Puthumathalan which was a No Fire Zone at the time. She had told the police that she threw away her cyanide capsule and her pistol and passed off as a displaced person.
Thamilini had been a student at Paranthan Hindu College up to the ‘O’ Level and had studied for the ‘A’ Level at the Central College of Kilinochchi. She joined the LTTE in 1991 and received battle training in a camp in Nirveli. When Nesmia, the previous head of LTTE Women’s Wing, - was killed in a clash with the army in Muhamalai, Thamilini had been appointed in her place. Her LTTE registration number was 1736.Thamilini was the name given her by the LTTE
There are around 10,000 LTTE cadres who have surrendered or have been arrested by the Government Forces of Sri Lanka. Among the civilians who broke through the LTTE barricades, there are many more LTTE cadres. It is ironic that these brave LTTE cadres moved under the cover of innocent civilians whom they held as Prabhakarans 'Human Shield"
Now, one should understand that the barbed wire around the refugee camps is not to stop innocent civilians from going out but is meant for LTTE scum who have shamelessly got in, forgetting about their bravado.
It should be understood that screening of people cannot be done in a few days as indicated by pro LTTE supporters. Everyday, many LTTE cadres are exposed and they are transferred to areas where they are interrogated and held.
The screening process is time consuming and tiring, but brings excellent results.

Thank you for the post Lalith.
But do not expect much understanding or much sense about the situation from the pro-LTTE membership here, or from some of the so-called "neutral" members who get such a thrill when Sri Lankans in general are called "Singhalese hooligans" by the LTTEers.

As proved by LTTEs, it is all show off.
KTTEs and (late) LTTE supporters do understand why the barbed fences are. That fact is evident from the flow of pain dripping loud words out of their keyboards. Good to know that there is only the cyanide way for them to escape from there.

Let them rant, Hiranya. After all, it's the only thing that is left with them -- pro-L(late)LTTE and KTTE -- along with the cyanide thing... :)

Nowpublic is a lefty/liberal controlled news site. The editors have an issue only if there is a news criticising Lefts / Liberals / Communists. Otherwise they neither object anyone nor edit stories / comments no matter if they indulge in racial remarks and hatred.
Such great crowd power.! Long live the revolution.

Anti-Christian (not verified),
I don't know about that, however my comment was not aimed at the editors. But at some members who show a clear dislike/hatred towards Sri Lankans.

Once a great mentor of mine remarked, "Everyone's biased to some extent as regards his personal priorities and prejudices..."... So, NowPublic may be liberal/lefty/communist/whatever, at least it lets everyone have his slice of the freedom of expression... dig?
Note: I am a muslim, and still enjoying my slices... :) Most of the time, it's not the things that are bad but the way how you perceive them, have a good day. :)

I am with Umair on this. Writing in NP is like learning yoga. It would be a bit difficult to control our senses and feelings. But once we overcome certain barriers, the flexibility it provides us is amazing. Most of the editors used to guide me as if I am a little baby who learns to walk in the initial time. I still remember how Cypresso used to help me correcting many mistakes ( Uncle, where are you.? I miss you).

PS. Sorry about the OT comment though..!

Got to agree with Agent on this.

Same here, Uncle Cypresso used to help me too... But, he's gone, alongwith Firoze bhai and may others... don't know where and why... According to one of them, it were the super-editors of NP who were the main cause... :S

"The LTTE’s women’s political wing head" She had a weapon when found seems like she is a terrorist
at 13:22 on May 28th, 2009
No Babael Fish, she was a terrorist and she took the proper decision, decision to live!
at 06:57 on May 28th, 2009
No she did not have her weapon nor the famed vial of cyanide.
Most of these terrorists wanted to live. However, if they told this to their terrorist bosses they would have killed them anyway.
So, back to square one, huh!

They are the parents of a terrorist. Definitely, they would have been anxious about their son, terrorist or not.

What bothers me most is that the terrorist supporters outside Sri Lanka are letting their imagination run riot when they talk/write about the present situation in Sri Lanka.

oh that's an understatement ! One particular one is deeply into Fantasy Fiction writing.

now, what would happen ? will the srilankan army torture and kill her ?
Another disappearance eh ?
let us see if she is alive or atelast produced in court or hanged legally, after say 1 year.
back to square one ..... when will u lankans learn about human rights ?
at 07:37 on May 29th, 2009
".....and kill her ?"
Or will KP be foolish enough to send a death squad after her?
When will (late) LTTE supporting 'diasporans' learn to shun terrorism?

Justice will prevail. First of all, let us see how far this terrorist has gone against the state.
at 10:28 on May 29th, 2009
Really sorry for her! Now will become of her? will she be gang raped, kill her with the bomb sown in her private parts (as seen in an youtube video, titled atrocites by srilankan armies). Poor her, she could have killed herself with that famed vial of cyanide! There are only a few satyajith's in this forum with understanding/kind crediability... what to do???
at 10:40 on May 29th, 2009
Do nothing my unverified brother. She will be OK. Right now, she must be giving out the names of all the others in the IDP camps.
How many reasons would there be for No. 1736 to be promoted as the Head of the LTTE Women's Political Wing, with only 'O' level education.
Back door?
