Train derails near Luther
LUTHER, Okla. - A train carrying crude oil continues to burn after derailing this afternoon in rural northeastern Oklahoma County.
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, traveling southbound from Tulsa, derailed about 2:30 p.m. near Covell and Dobbs roads north of Luther, said Joe Faust, the director of public affairs for the Fort Worth, Texas-based railway.
Officials did not know how many cars had derailed, but some of them were carrying crude oil, ethanol or had hydrochloric residue, Faust said.
There were 110 railcars on the train. No injuries were reported, Faust said. The railroad tracks near the site of the fire appear to be bent and an oil pumpjack is located nearby. Explosions at the site sent large balls of fire into the air.

Original reporting, with map, here. Although now it's just a matter of haz mat teams going in. As I reported, no evacuations, just some road blockages.

PEP, I wrote you and waited 10 minutes for you to take this story. When you didn't I jumped on it. For the record the time stamp shows the original report. Now that you are on it, It is your story as you have a better understanding of OK. I will remove my breaking tag and news wanted and put a tag on your story.

politisite, I never got an email from you (I just checked). and I actually was sourcing the story to write it--not highlight it. I wanted to get it right when I wrote it.
Nope, I'm done. You flagged your story, you keep it. I have work to do, plus a party invitation, so frankly, a train derailment that I've already written about that's all over except for the cleanup isn't really going to keep me at the screen.
Have fun! Let us know if there does turn out to be anything toxic, or if the fire gets going.

Oh heck, no, I haven't had time to go back on earlier comments. Sometimes I don't, actually. Sometimes spare time is up; sometimes conversations seem to be over. I apologize if that conversation (VP equals vice president?) isn't over yet. My bad. I can't even remember the convo right now! Too much going on!
