Madonna officially has lost all relevance/credibility
OPINION
Anyone who makes the comparisons Madonna did in her recent "concert" clearly has absolutely no respect for the intelligence of the American voter. Comparing McCain to Hitler and Obama to Gandhi speaks volumes about the lack of intelligence of this dried up old skank.
Madonna kicks off tour with McCain slamMonday, August 25, 2008
(08-25) 04:00 PDT Cardiff, Wales --
Even at 50, the queen of pop can't stop courting controversy.
As Madonna kicked off her "Sticky and Sweet" tour on Saturday, she took a none-too-subtle swipe at John McCain.
Amid a four-act show, a video interlude carried images of destruction, global warming, Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, Zimbabwe's authoritarian President Robert Mugabe - and the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Another sequence, shown later, pictured slain Beatle John Lennon, climate activist Al Gore, Mahatma Gandhi and finally Barack Obama.
The rest of the show had the usual Madonna fixtures: sequins, fishnets and bondage-style outfits drawn from the 3,500 items of clothing reportedly whipped together by 36 designers specifically for the tour.
Forty thousand fans - many in pink cowboy hats and boas - were treated to a heavy metal "Borderline," while "La Isla Bonita" was backdrop for a flamenco routine.
The show, a mishmash of "gangsta pimp," Romanian folk, rave and dance - billed as an homage to Madonna's reinventions over the past three decades - arrives at Oakland's Oracle Arena on Nov. 1 and 2.

She may have no credibility in your book, but she's got about 325 million bucks worth in the eyes of the rest of the world ... at least as of January 17, 2007, according to Forbes list of the 20 wealthiest momen in entertainment ...

Doesn't look too dried up and skanky either ...
Sorry about that, you know how opinions are - everybody's got one ...

Are you actually saying that money buys credibility? You hold the democratic system and the American voter in such low esteem as to make such a crass statement? It is a sad day for the United States of America when money is an acceptable surrogate for well researched and thought out ideas and intelligent debate (none of which characterize Madonna's latest forey into political life).

Well, EastVan, I'm holding something in rather low esteem at this point, and it's not the American voter's intelligence, nor Madonna's credibility ...

Is she still an American ?
She has one of the most brilliant minds in pop history, even if she is now at the tail end of her career
at 15:23 on August 25th, 2008
Not a brilliant poloitical thinker (or any kind of thinker based on her rediculous comparisons). I would expect a more well thought understanding of politics from an 8 year old. She should stick to bad pop music and literature more in keeping with her level of understanding of complex issues (childrens books).

I do not personally equate intelligence in politics with any endeavor which makes you famous. But never forget it is not just the Democrats which flock to the 'pop culture' for support and endorsements.
There are artist I love who I can not stand their political views, but I can still love them and their music (or acting) because they keep their views on their sleeve and are well educated on the subjects in which they take a stand. ....then there are others...
I can't say I own a single Madonna album, I still think she is a brilliant artist and a brilliant marketer and business woman. And for others to suggest otherwise is rather silly considering the wealth she has amassed.

And well considered political debate is something I appreciate. Many of my favorite artists are polar opposite of my political beliefs but I respect that they have spent some time to formulate an informed (although perhaps incorrect) opinion. To simply say that McCain is like Hitler or Mugabe not only shows she knows nothimng about McCain it also shows she is completely ignorant about two despots that she ought to be familiar with. How would people react to say, Jay Leno saying that Obama was similar to Bin Laden or to Pol Pot? It would be roundly condemned as ignorant ramblings by someone who clearly doesn't understand politics. That is exactly what Madonna has done....ignorant comment on something she clearly does not understand.

Your debate would have been better served if you had not opened by calling the woman a skank. Name calling on that level is not necessary, and I believe reprehensible.
I agree that using a Hitler comparative to anybody under a certain threshold of evil should never be done. Even McCain's most rabid detractors can not place him at that level with any amount of logic.

I am sorry for stooping to Madonna's level in my opening comments. You are correct I should have taken the high road in spite of her clearly chosing the sewar. By making a comparison one can translate the analogy two ways. She is also saying that Hitler was a principled war hero who served his country bravely. That is the problem when people who do not have the slightest grasp of argument structure and formal logic open their mouths. They prove their ignorance to the world.

If life were logical men would ride side-saddle ...

Actually Hitler did serve as many other did and just as much or as little as many other did in the first World war. He did receive the equivalent of the Purple star in WWI yes.
It is her opinion to support one over the other and how she does it is her stile, Madonna has always shocked and been rather successful at it as well. May we agree with her or not is actually without importance, yet her word and action do carry weight even today.
at 15:23 on August 25th, 2008
she's always been the skank of shock
kinda like marilyn manson shock skank
at 15:33 on August 25th, 2008
You are so right! I can see the similarities in her pic.

Remarkable ...

Madonna has not been relevant for about 10 years.
She had a great run, people still like to see her perform, but now it's more like a Vegas act. She's in that same boat as Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Elton John, Earth, Wind and Fire. They are still seen as stars, they are legendary stars, but they have not had a hit in quite a while. So, not relevant to the world of current music. They are something different now. It's cool.
at 18:26 on August 25th, 2008
I totally agree. Let them entertain their fans but stay out of things that are above your grade level. In this case Madonna was trying to gain fan support by making statements so ignorant and outrageous that they wouldn't find purchase from Louis Farrakhan or even Hugo Chavez.

eastvanray, I like this story. It's good stuff.
Democracy and freedom of speech can be an embarrassing medium for those of us that fell right or judgemental. I would not underestimate her impact nor her ability to move masses.

eastvanray, I like this story. It's good stuff.
Let's all just realize that she is a pop star and appeals more to younger people (I think she still appeals to some young people) and young people just don't vote. While it is reprehensible to compare John McCain very few people are going to take her seriously.
Plus she's got a fake British accent and wears leotards.
at 19:20 on August 25th, 2008
Her appeal would be people who grew up in the 80's and went "'clubbing" in the 90's, also Homosexuals and all of those demographics Do Vote....
at 20:26 on August 25th, 2008
I would also hope that they think before they vote.
at 19:56 on August 25th, 2008
She's a brilliant woman that have reached the top of her career.
And God sent us only one gift for each. That's why ...
I wanna know what does she think about the word Democracy, History and Political.
