This type of sentence
for adultery is not a good
way of punishment but
still Malaysia does have
the right to set it own laws.
Yet, another type of legal
sanctions could be better
as punishment.
Last year the case of Kartika Shukarno sparked a legal debate over the powers of Islamic courts to issue such rulings, since federal law shields women from the punishment. Shariah courts operate in parallel in Malaysia but are accused of infringing on secular rights, particularly by non-Muslims.

Malaysia has just about the worst legal system in the world, it's made up from bits of British, Indian and Australian amongst other things. The federal system has no say in the running and decision making processes of the "Syariah" courts, but it changes from region to region on which and how much power they have.
It's the good part of having a secular system only in my opinion, but where Shariah law is entrenched there's little the outside world can do about barbaric decisions like this.

Good comment. I think they need to ban this type of punishment but as you say the system does not allow the federal government to do this.
