Things  got weird at the Mall of America on Monday, December 26, 2011 after a near-riot broke out. The reason for the Mall of America riot? Rumors that rappers Lil Wayne and Drake may have been making a surprise appearance. The rappers were nowhere the mall Monday night.

Dozens of patrons fought in the malls food court leading to the arrest of nine people. Some estimates had as many as 200 people involved in the Mall of America brawl. The fight caused some Mall of America stores to close as a safety precaution.

According to a report, the Mall of a America brawl started at around 4:20 pm and lasted about an hour.

Some reports described the Mall of America incident as a flash mob.

Late Monday night, a  mall official issued a public statement:

"Bloomington police and Mall of America security arrested several individuals following a series of fights in the mall. Unfortunately, as we have witnessed at shopping sites across the country this week, large groups ... can come together and create bad situations. ... Our officers along with Bloomington police were able to respond immediately and quickly get the situation under control. No serious injuries were reported and the mall remained open. ... We will review our security efforts ... to see if any changes are required."
