After a long investigation an arrest has finally been made in the child abuse investigation on the island of Jersey in the English Channel. In terms of the community looking the other way for so long, it bears striking resemblance to the recent abuse and abduction cases in Austria.

A 68-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and indecent assault in connection with a long-running child abuse inquiry at a care home in Jersey, police said on Tuesday.

"Police can confirm that this morning a 68 year-old man was arrested in Jersey in connection with the ongoing Historical Abuse Enquiry," a Jersey police spokeswoman said in a statement.

"The man is now in custody helping police with their enquiries in connection with a number of historic rapes and indecent assaults."

She declined to elaborate.

Police are investigating the former children's home as part of an inquiry into abuse between the 1950s and 2003.
