Mark Jacoby, the owner of Young Political Majors (or YPM for short,) was arrested outside an Ontario hotel by seven squad cars and nine police officers on suspicion of voter registration fraud.

YPM had been hired by the California Republican Party to register tens of thousands of voters this year and was paid $7 to $12 for every person they registered as a member of the GOP.  Most of the people they registered, however, were allegedly tricked or out-right lied to.  Some had no idea that they had been registered, or re-registered as a Republican, and in fact, some of them thought they were signing a petition for tougher penalties against child molesters and had no idea the paperwork had to do with voter registration at all.  Still others were told that they were required to register or re-register as Repiblican before they could sign the petition.

YPM is also allegedly involved in bait-and-switch tactics across the country and is facing investigation of YPM workers in Florida and Massachusetts. In Arizona, the firm was recently a defendant in a civil rights lawsuit. Dan Goldfine, Jacoby's attorney, denied any wrongdoing by his client and said the arrest was part of a "long pattern of harassment against Mr. Jacoby for an entirely valid voter registration effort."
