A siege involving a man holding a six-year-old girl prisoner entered its third day today.
Firearms officers continued to surround a house in the North Yorkshire resort of Scarborough, where the man has barricaded himself in.
Police were called to the property, in Herdborough Road, on Monday night in response to reports of a domestic disturbance. It was reported that the man telephoned a TV station claiming to have stabbed the girl's mother.
Police were unable to confirm that the man, who it is thought is aged in his 30s, was armed with a knife. Police negotiators were trying to encourage the man to surrender.
