Imagine waking up looking forward to the New Year, going online to check just how much you spent over Christmas and finding your account was £100 billion in the red!

That's exactly what happened to student Donald Moffat when he checked his account and he just couldn't believe his eyes.

After contacting Barclay's they admitted it was a mistake and that a number of other customers accounts were also showing up as being 'incorrectly debited'.

This was of course as usual with banks not caused by any human but by a 'technical' error

A MAN spoke of his shock last night after his bank statement mistakenly showed him to be almost £100 billion overdrawn.
Donald Moffat, 38, was stunned when the figure appeared on his online Barclays account yesterday morning.

The bank said a "technical error" caused some of its customer accounts to be incorrectly debited and has apologised.
