Manchester Rejects Congestion Charge
The British city of Manchester has voted to reject a proposal to introduce a congestion charge in the city similiar to that in London - which charges drivers a daily fee to drive in the city centre. The vote failed by a large margin - 63 percent.
Voters have rejected the Greater Manchester Transport Innovation Fund proposals.
The postal vote result follows months of political mud-slinging.
More than 1.94 million ballot packs were posted to voters across the region over the past two weeks, with the deadline for returned ballots passing on Thursday night.
