NP Rank:
Maniwaki Quebec: African Lion escapes , search is on.

A rather Large 2 year old African Lion escapes it's enclosure from a Private homeowner who regularly walked it around town on a leash. Though the owner say it is tame, others surmise once it gets hungry it will revert to it's basic instincts, in other words everyone he meets is "Fair Game!" The lion is believed living in the woods and mountain areas surrounding this small Quebec town.
These Lions can reach up to 800 pounds and are very tempermental, like all felines.
What I would like to know how the hell was a private citizen allowed to keep a African Lion as a pet in the first place?
It disappeared Tuesday night from the pen used by its owner, who treated the wild animal as a pet and even named him "Boomer."
Boomer's owner says the lion is domesticated, but police and residents worry that as each hour passes, Boomer's animal instincts will return.
"We don't know what this animal will do eventually when it gets hungry. That's the fear," said Jean-Guy Whiteduck, a former chief of the Kitigan Zibi reserve about two hours north of Ottawa.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff.
You ask a very good question...
Who names a lion 'Boomer' anyway?

Probably the same people who now are going to be considered Boomers Dinner if they are not careful.
Thanks for the GS and the comment Amy

Update May 01, 2008, Boomer was caught this morning by Police and is in the hands of Wildlife officials.
Chances the owner will be reunited with his pet African Lion, it is reported that is as likely as the Owner winning the Powerball Lottery!
