Marcos Chavez Gonzalez Arrested for Mount Airy NC Shooting

Marcos Chavez Gonzalez was arrested Monday for the fatal shooting of 4 in a parking lot in Mount Airy, NC., the model town of Mayberry community on 1960's "The Andy Griffith Show". Marcos Chavez Gonzalez was charged with 4 counts of murder that took place in front of a TV store in Mount Airy. He was arrested at a motel in Virginia, 50 miles away from the Mount Airy, and now held in the Henry County jail.

The shooting occurred on Sunday after 2 pm in the parking lot of a TV equipments store, which located less than a mile away from the local police station. Two victims died at the scene and the other two were pronounced dead at the hospital, just across the street.

Police Chief Dale Watson said the victims were at the store for a reason, but did not disclose the details. The victims were all Hispanic males.

"We don't feel that this was a random event, if that does help put the community at ease," Mount Airy Police Chief Dale Watson said at a news conference Sunday night.

He refused to elaborate or identify the victims except to say, "We do have an idea why they were there."
