Marie Joseph: Dead Woman in Pool for 2 Days

Marie Joseph, a 36-year-old woman from Fall River, Massachusetts, was found dead in a Lafayette Park swimming pool on June 28. Marie Joseph was last seen on Sunday, June 26, and is believed to have been dead in the pool for two days before she was discovered.

Marie Joseph had taken her neighbor's son to the pool, and the two went down the water slide together. They collided in the water. The boy said that he didn't see Joseph again. He said that he told the pool lifeguards after the accident, but that they did nothing.

As of June 29, all of the Massachusetts Dept. of Conservation and Recreation's public deep-water swimming pools were closed pending a review of operational procedures.

An autopsy will be performed on Marie Joseph, but the police are not initially treating her death as suspicious. How she remained in a public swimming pool for two days, though, is a matter that has the public demanding an investigation, which is currently underway.

Apparently pool staff looked for Marie Joseph after finding her ID and clothes on the pool grounds. Did they not look in the pool itself; or did the staff definitively check the pool, and Joseph got back into the water at some point later? How did no pool visitors notice a dead body?
