On marijuana and the Islamic religion

Nicholas Delpopolo, a U.S. judo athlete was kicked out of the Olympics for testing positive for marijuana. First of all, marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug. It's not like steroids. It does not give an advantage, other than at maybe a Doritos eating contest. Two, it is legal in a few nations. There is no logical reason that it is banned by the Olympics other than drug war hysteria. Alcohol is illegal by some Olympic nations, specifically Middle East Muslim theocracies. Should they get the power to ban alcohol? About 1/2 of people in the U.S. have used marijuana, and some of the rest are lying. Michael Phelps has the most Olympic gold medals ever, and he smoked marijuana. Our national obsession with punitive action against users, is well, stupid.
On a different subject, do you know about Ramadan, it is an Islamic month where they fast or don't consume food or even water during the day between sunrise and sunset. First of all, I think not being able to consume water during the day in Saudi Arabia when the temperature hits 130 in the shade, is just idiotic. Anyway, those who aren't religious or even atheists are forced to participate. An atheist in Malaysia is considered under the law (if born to a family of Muslims) a Muslim.
If caught breaking the fast, he faces up to a year in prison and a several hundred dollar fine. This is what happens when religion becomes dominant, theocrats impose their beliefs on everyone else. Of course in the U.S. we have theocrats who want to impose their religious practices on others. That is why in states like Wisconsin, you can't buy cars on a Sunday or in some places, alcohol on Sundays. Of course it was worse 100 years ago when religion was even more powerful.
Also, why is it that you are considered a Muslim even when you hold none of the beliefs of Islam? Indeed, Christian right-wingers stated that President Obama must be a Muslim because Muslims (or at least certain ones) would consider him one no matter what his beliefs might be on religion. See, they agree with Islam that once you are born into a religion (though Obama's childhood is more complicated then that) than that is what you are forever.
My maternal great, great, great (how many greats grandmother) was Jewish. Supposedly that makes me Jewish. The very idea is of course absurd. I hold no Jewish beliefs, I speak no Hebrew and I never was raised in anyway, Jewish. Neither was my mother, her mother or her mother. In fact, my mother is an atheist who is even more critical of religion, than I am.
Religions are beliefs, and to some extent, culture. They aren't inherent. Nobody has a Christian or Jewish gene, though they might have a gene or genes to make them more likely to be religious. Religion is not the same as race, sex or sexual orientation. It should not be free from criticism. In the U.S, we enjoy this right, in Malaysia, unfortunately not.

You sound rather confused and conflicted. Maybe your religious gene is attempting to override your gay gene.
It has been said and repeated by notable 20th century psychologist that "The first love affair we must consummate successfully in this world is with ourselves". 2000 years ago Jesus commanded the faithful, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
For more than 2000 years the self-loather's have been hard at work to create the victim society they can rule with impunity. History is full of stories of their success. Their tyrants and record of tyranny are legend.
They will use every weapon at their disposal. They will weaponize religion, nationalism, patriotism, family. Pervert any and every cause to dominate. When they can't find enough willing sheep in one cause they will find another, conflate another, bastardize another. Causes are shop windows for the buyers and sellers of hate.
If you are willing to join any cause that pits you against your neighbor you can not assert that you hold some moral high ground. That, you have cut from under your own feet. The price of joining the mob.

I'm offering the premise that equality and justice begins with the individual relationship. Individual Rights and Freedoms protected by individuals who refuse to join mob think or their cause celeb/victim d' jour. Respect the rights of your neighbor and your neighbor will in turn respect your rights. Throw your neighbor over for the popular cause d' jour. Begin a campaign of belittlement and lies against your neighbor, and you will eventually be rewarded with the same from them. The escalation to hate crimes, mass murders, and then authoritative coercion in the name of 'justice'.
It's the old story. The first chapter in the book of social history. In the name of the cause they will use every weapon at their disposal. They will weaponize religion, you will blame the religious. They will weaponize nationalism, you will blame a nation. They will weaponize patriotism, you will blame the defenders of nation. They will weaponize family, and you will blame marriage and the two parent family. They will pervert any and every cause to dominate. And they know where haters congregate. When they can't find enough willing sheep in one cause they will find another, conflate another, bastardize another. Causes are shop windows for the buyers and sellers of hate. Hate grows government. In the name of growing government they got hundreds of gay's to gather around a fried chicken outlet and place themselves on exhibit. Engage in displays of public sex. React predictably like monkeys in a cage.
The problem is that the idiots who run from cause to cause are the most eager proponents of the bait and hate mob. They tell the biggest lies, conflate issues, undermine and deny social values and instead of acting as a unifying entity they force the wedge of social divisiveness further ever further until the schism is unrepairable. Eventually, the State, the one true cause, will expand it's powers and pass it's new authority over the herd/mob mentality. BUT it wont stop the number of victims coming forward with their divergences. Their exceptions. Hate empowers government.
Oh, sure. The cause mob will claim a social victory. They always do even when there is none. It's artificial. Phoney. Forced resolutions that bring a long slow burn of victimhood. Ask Southerners, who can still feel the heavy hand of abuse by the carpetbaggers. Ask the Jews, they will never forget. As the Black's. Ask the Japanese Americans shoved unceremoniously into internment camps. Ask the women. Ask the children. Ask the disabled. Ask the criminals. They aren't guilty. Equality doesn't exist. The long list of victims to inequality are still unequal. Still vulnerable to exploitation by the State and mob think. Gay's are just one more piece of tinder for the fire. Latino's are waiting in the wings, arms loaded with ignitable fuel to the cause. There's a line up that winds across the entire nation back and forth several times. The victim horde. Life for them is unfair, unjust. The persecuted grows government.
They don't even know who their neighbor is and haven't got the inclination to introduce themselves.
There is no relationship. No mutual respect. Strangers begrudging strangers. Interlopers. That's been the sum of social cause. Disconnected strangers living in fear...together. Divisiveness grows government. Thanks to you and your fellow social victims the State has expanded to where Individual Rights and freedoms have now been assumed by the State to protect us from ourselves.
Congrats. It has only taken sixty-seven years for you to return fascist governing to the world forum. Soviet Russia collapses. China moves to a capital Statism. And the US does a complete 180 and embraces fascist authoritarianism as a means to protect the victims of American democratic socialism.
Yes, yes. I know. You don't understand. They'll have a symbol for that. A bumper sticker at first then a tattoo maybe. A more permanent marker to identify the malleable flock.

Wind is notoriously an unreliable source of energy and few people live in places where they can make use of it, but this is not true for solar energy. For the wind turbine to work effectively you need wind but this doesn't mean that the wind turbine they make you build doesn't work if there's wind. It's probably not much and it's not enough alone. Also build solar panels is definitely possible, and the energy you get depends on many factors, but they can definitely help you reduce the power bill, and the solar energy is more reliable and constant than the wind Otha Marchessault
