Marriage advice sought during financial crisis

In times of health and wealth, love in a marriage is easier to maintain. As a result of the tough financial times, divorce lawyers and financial advisers are receiving more inquiries, many couples hoping to seek advice in the face of a recession.

Money can often be the source of marital problems and it won't be a surprise that couples are seeking divorce because of the downturn.

Couples are now seeking advice on timing their divorces in light of the current financial situation. Wealthy spouses are keen to strike a deal while their assets' values are low, Shu explained.
Ming Li, who works for China's first marriage and finance firm Shanghai Weiqing, said: "Many questions are about how to avoid paying off debts after the divorce, and the number of such telephone inquiries has increased from 200 to 300 in recent months."

Does pragmatism win out in this day and age? Academics are still unsure as to what impact the financial crisis will have on marriage, but they do say that though divorce may be desirable, it is still costly.

Interesting, I would have though this to be true for individuals being affected financially in a seemingly well off society yet not when society at large is being affected and puts every one into the same dilemma of sorts. Since they do not longer have to compete with one another nor their friends and other for the best latest Fashion and cars...

This was the topper of a cake for a wedding I shot in Sacramento, CA. in November 2008. I have never seen a happier bride, wedding day or not!

I make these bird cake toppers and am getting lots of requests for them... I chose to avoid divorce by not marrying my fiance in the first place! Finance was never an issue tho... marriage is a bout more than just money.

The "Wedding Cake" photo is from a wedding I photographed in September 2008 in Litchfield, CT. What a great day. It was not the first marriage for either, but they were like two teenagers in love, it was sweet...Finances can cause stress, but like all aspects of marriage, couples need to work together. Money wasn't what brought you together (hopefully) so it should NOT be what drives you apart!
