Massive SnowStorm Hits Ontario, 50cm Expected
Hold on to your hats Toronto, we're in for another storm, this one is expected to last at least 36 hours and dump 50cm of snow between Friday and Sunday.
You can see what happened the last time we had even a third of that amount here.
A winter storm watch is in effect because of a major snowfall expected to begin, Friday afternoon, threatening to get in the way of the March Break getaway.A storm is currently brewing over Texas with the potential to bring significant snow to most of southern Ontario.
It appears that the snow will come in two doses. The first shot will begin as early as this afternoon for southwestern Ontario and later this evening in eastern Ontario.
There may have a brief reprieve overnight into Saturday morning where snow may become light and more intermittent.
The heaviest snowfall is then expected beginning later Saturday. Keep in mind that this storm is expected to last for 36 to 48 hours.
Toronto could get as much as 26 centimetres or more before it ends sometime on Sunday, with forecasters warning about a 'one-two' punch that could leave the city feeling a knockout blow. The first wave begins Friday afternoon, and threatens to bring about 7 centimetres, as the storm revs up.
Then comes the weekend and it doesn't look like you'll be getting the day off from shovelling. The disturbance will intensify overnight bringing as much as 25 centimetres by late Saturday. The current timeline estimates:
- Friday, 2pm-5pm: 2-4 cm
- Friday, 5pm-8pm: 1-3cm
- Friday, 8pm-Saturday 8am: 5-10cm
- Saturday, 8am-8pm: 5-15cm
The latter stages of the storm will be accompanied by more misery in the form of high winds, which are expected to blow much of what falls around, making efforts to clear it that much more difficult, and creating white-outs in spots.

divLabel.innerHTML = maxlimit - field.value.length + " characters remaining";}
}This latest big blow could move us closer to the all-time snow record for the season. More than 178cm have already fallen so far, not counting what's coming. The all-time record is 207cm back in 1938-39 and if we get what's expected, we'll be close to it. A few more storms before spring arrives on March 20th, and we could easily smash the total.
Sick of all the winter weather?
Blame the United States of America.
According to a forecast by Environment Canada, a massive Texas-brewed storm is due to hit Southern Ontario this afternoon, once more dumping snow on Windsor and Essex County.
"Unfortunately, it's been a season of this. I've been telling people for years -- most of our misery comes from the United States," said David Phillips, Environment Canada's senior climatologist.

The parking lot at the Port Credit GO station is crowded as snowbanks use up automobile space. Some of the banks are taller than the cars and the people driving them. And it's snowing again!
