In a statement, the national prosecutors’ office says the youth is believed to have participated in attacks by WikiLeaks supporters on websites “including MasterCard and Paypal, among others.”
The statement Thursday said the youth was arrested in The Hague, Netherlands. His name was not released.
Mastercard, Visa, and Pay Pal have been hit in recent days by attacks with either slowed down or completely shut down the websites of these financial services firms.
The attack is apparently by a loose collective of internet users known as Anonymous.
Anonymous has launched campaigns targeting Mastercard, Visa, and Pay Pal because those companies removed the ability of users to donate to Wikileaks.
Because the structure of Anonymous is informal it is unclear what role, if any, the arrested Dutch teenager played in the attacks.
