Mathew Ford's Family Sues Ministry of Defence Over Son's Death
L/Cpl Mathew Ford died during an attack on a Taliban fort in January 2007. His family is taking legal action against the Ministry of Defence for negligence. The MoD has until November 5th to respond.
L/Cpl Mathew Ford's mother Joan said the MoD failed to answer how her son died in Afghanistan. The Ministry of Defense said his death was likely a friendly fire incident, killed by a British gunner from an armored vehicle. An inquiry had looked into the causes of Mathew Ford's death. It concluded that the gunner had been issued with night vision goggles but was ordered not to use them because it was getting lighter.
However, a Marine said in the inquest that "there was poor visibility and the need to use night vision goggles."
Mrs. Ford demands the MoD to give her family a satisfactory answer over her son's death.
Mrs Ford said: "I think it was one cock-up after another that day and basically they [MoD] don't want it to come across that they didn't know what they were doing.
"They know what happened on that day and they should come clean and they should tell us."
