Mayoral Candidate Rossbach asks Maplewood Police to Remove Public
3-26-09 [Councilman]Will Rossbach asked Maplewood police to remove the public from the last Smoke Task Force. Council Member Rossbach didn't get the group to vote his way tonight, so he then tried to have the task force make a series of official recommendations -- without informed discussion -- to Council during the last 10 minutes as they were putting on their coats to leave. I
If you didn't know before how dangerously "democratic" Mr. Rossbach is, now you know. He handpicked the task force members, claiming he was creating a balanced group. The group certainly did NOT represent the demographics of Maplewood, whether in terms of residency, economic status, or race/ethnicity. If you were not selected to be on the task force, then your opinions were unimportant.
The man who attracted the attention of the ACLU for his past attempts to limit speech has now intimidated a number of citizens from speaking against his position by asking for the police to clear the room (Council Chambers).
Perhaps someone could inform the would-be Mayor of the concept of Synergy to get him to allow dissenting debate on any topic, if the mere illegality and violation of the spirit of Democray are not enough on their own don't merit his listening all sides of an issue.
On the other hand, if his first bout with the ACLU on the topic of free speech did not adjust his attitude what will?
One thing is for sure, if elected to Mayor his policy of censorship would extend to the whole array of city issues and not just backyard fire pits. Instead of his policy of censorship being tempered, an election would only him embolden him to attempt more acts of censorship.
We don't need more aloof and arrogant elected officials.
