Mbeki in Zimbabwe to Negotiate Power-Sharing Dispute

Former South African president Thabo Mbeki met with Robert Mugabe, current president of Zimbabwe, and Morgan Tsvangirai, his main rival today in order to try to save the power-sharing deal the leaders had been working on.

The deal is almost off the table after Mugabe announced he would be giving his own party the most important posts in cabinet, and Tsvangirai threatened to withdraw.

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and his main political rival met Tuesday with former South African leader Thabo Mbeki in a last-ditch bid to save a flagging power-sharing deal.
Mbeki brokered the agreement reached four weeks ago that called for the creation of a unity government to end months of deadly political turmoil and to rescue the nation from economic ruin.
