McCain: Border fence first, then reform

"I believe we must have comprehensive immigration reform. The American people want our borders secured first," McCain said during a news conference in Mexico City.

"That will require some walls. It will require virtual fences. It will require high-technology equipment. We must secure our borders, and then we will address the issue of comprehensive immigration reform."

John McCain warned Mexicans that more border walls are needed before he attempts to overhaul U.S. immigration laws again, an unpopular position in a country he visited in hopes of boosting his standing with Hispanics at home.

During a trip to Mexico City, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee also said he opposed unilaterally changing parts of the North American Free Trade Agreement, as liberal Mexican politicians and his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, have suggested.

A year ago, the Republican senator was the co-author of a sweeping immigration-reform bill that had fired hope among millions of Mexicans living illegally in the United States

lfcastro, I like this story. It's good stuff.  It blows me away that McCain is called a flip flopper in Immigration Reform.  It did not pass so he realized that the American people want our laws to be enforced and our borders secure before we do immigration reform.  He heard the American people and adjusted his actions accordinally.  Isn't that what we ask from our representitives?  Doesn't he work for the people?

Now he is called flip flopper because he is doing what the people want.  A politition can't win.  Folks wonder why our congress won't change their minds about anything...

I am a supporter of the law enforcement also. I strongly believe that our lawmakers should in fact represent the people and the elections will show what the American people is for, all of us will have to respect people's decision on November, don't you think? I am just highlighting news that I found. This issue on immigration doesn’t affect me, I am not an owner of small business in America and so I don't have a need for minimum wage workers. As a citizen and taxpayer I would like to see everyone respecting the laws. Is my opinion also that no fence will solve the illegal immigration problem in America, but for some, a material solution works better than a legal solution. Let's see what the great citizens of America will decide, November is not that far. I am not making any statement here for or against any candidate.
