McCain Finds Himself Fighting A 'Defensive Battle' Against Obama

In early October, a poll launched by TIME Magazine and CNN had revealed that Democratic Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois has been making unbelievable grounds. While that has been good for Obama, it has not been good for GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona.

Back in early October, the poll shows that Obama was gaining ground over McCain in states that current United States President George W. Bush had won back in 2004. In short, Obama has been gaining ground in red states. It is known that McCain and Obama are still brawling out to win North Carolina.

Back in 2004, Bush had a twelve-point lead over then Democratic nominee Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts.

In Indiana, Bush won that from Kerry by a twenty-one point lead.

In short, Obama has been gaining ground in “red” states. Red states are those that usually back the GOP. Blue states are those that usually back the Democrats. Yellow or purple states are those that swing either way.

Those states are the crucial battleground states. Not long ago, McCain had withdrawn from Michigan. Not many within the GOP are happy with that decision.

Now, it seems that McCain and his VP running-mate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin find themselves having to play defense. It is going to be a difficult balancing act between the red states and the crucial battleground states.

Now, McCain and Palin are focusing on campaigning in mainly the red states. Today, Palin is campaigning in Indiana. As mentioned, Bush won that from Kerry by a sizable margin back in 2004.

McCain is campaigning in North Carolina. That is traditionally a red state. However, Obama and McCain are fighting it out to win North Carolina.

According to CNN chief correspondent John King, while Bill Clinton was the last Democrat to be US President, Clinton never saw such an electoral map.

In short, there are still many things that McCain has to worry about. Right now, McCain may have no choice but to play defense.

Pretty much, McCain and the rest of the GOP have a very steep uphill battle from here to Election Day.
