McCain joins White House race with political spud ads

There's a Canadian company that wants to see McCain in the White House no matter which of the competing presidential candidates wins in November.

A major ad campaign launched this week by the U.S. subsidiary of New Brunswick food titan McCain Foods Ltd. makes the case for their frozen potato products to be on the menu in the U.S. presidential home -- as well as in other American households.

The edgy satire aims to take advantage of the coincidence between the name of the company, and the surname of the Republican presidential nominee, John McCain.

Mad TV star and impersonator Frank Caliendo will also take part -- stumping in mock campaign stops while in character as the Arizona senator.

The company says it is not taking sides in the U.S. election, and Democrats may be assuaged by another part of the campaign that urges shoppers to go for their blue bags in stores (the colour of McCain brand packaging) -- rather than the red ones (the colour used by competitor Ore-Ida from Heinz).

Political tradition in the United States associates blue with the Democrats, and red with the Republicans.

Watch the old UK McCain commercials!  I love their productions.  I particularly recommend "Chip Factory" - Eisenstein meets Busby Berkeley.

These folks have a real sense of humor/humour.  Don't know squat about their chips, though.
