McCain-Palin's 'Fellow Traveler' Insinuations: What If U.S. Security Forces Agree?
• A pre-election civics lesson needed to avert a constitutional crisis?
GET POLITICAL W/ VIC LIVINGSTON
The latest McCain-Palin TV web commercial, a follow-up to the first TV ad linking Barack Obama to former Weather Underground founder and confessed bomber William Ayers, just posted on the McCain YouTube.com website. (http://www.youtube.com/johnmccaindotcom)
Those who appreciated McCain's almost apologetic back-pedal before that old lady who called Obama an Arab are likely to be disappointed in this screed, which clocks in at a minute-forty -- a duration that doesn't fit the usual format for messages intended for paid broadcast on TV. Provocative long-form ads are capable of generating the desired buzz without having to buy expensive airtime; it's working here, isn't it?
This ad goes even further in painting the picture of Obama as a willing accomplice of a terrorist, making no mention of the fact that Obama was a child when Ayers participated in terrorist bombings. It characterizes as "radical" the Annenberg Challenge educational group in Chicago -- the organization on whose board Obama served alongside of Ayers, who's now a college professor. The ad's description of the charity no doubt would have amused the right-leaning conservative Walter Annenberg, the benefactor for whom it was named.
Yet the ad also states that "Obama's friendship with terrorist Ayers isn't the issue. The issue is Obama's judgment and candor."
The McCain campaign's continued persistent insinuations -- that Obama, a United States senator, is a radical who has been "palling around with terrorists," as Sarah Palin famously put it; that he's "too risky" for America; that he's someone who, in the words of a GOP lawmaker, "couldn't even get a security clearance to be a Secret Service agent," raises a troubling question:
If the GOP standard-bearer is casting Obama as unfit for office due to his professional associations connected to public service, at what point might the U.S. military, intelligence and federal security forces engage in McCarthy Era- style "guilt by association" and consider Obama to be an illegitimate presidential candidate? And, by dint of investigative power or official sanction, could these forces be tempted to disqualify him, either before or after the election?
To put it another way: Should Obama win on Nov. 4th, is it possible that the vehemence of anti-Obama sentiment could result in a refusal by government entities to recognize the election as legitimate -- sparking a constitutional crisis unmatched in American history?
It seems apparent that the anti-Obama fervor extends far beyond the angry crowds who turn out for McCain-Palin rallies. Could it be that some of those charged with protecting the nation and its political leaders share these feelings, and might be emboldened by the rhetoric and the emotionally-charged advertising to do whatever is deemed necessary to prevent Obama from taking office?
Troubled economic times, and vague admonitions about the prospect of civil unrest in the streets, add more fuel to this volatile election scenario. The polls say that the McCain-Palin "fellow traveler" strategy isn't working politically. But take heed of the complete meaning of that old adage: Politics is warfare by other means.
So, in the interest of maintaining peace and calm, not to mention our constitutional democracy, here is a modest proposal:
Someone in a position of power who cares about the continued health and well-being of our representative democracy must have the courage to remind all sworn officers of government of their pledge to defend the Constitution of the United States, even if they personally object to the outcome of the electoral process.
These officers of government and many of those under their charge already have taken a "loyalty oath," their sworn oath of office. Given the heated passions aroused by angry speechifying and unmistakable code, perhaps now is a good time to remind them of the significance of that solemn oath -- and of their duty to their fellow citizens to uphold the law of the land even if the face of self-righteous demagoguery.
One might rightfully respond that in America, sworn officers and public officials needn't be reminded by a lowly columnist of their constitutionally prescribed obligations.
For the sake of all of us, let's hope that's right.

Speak openly and often of the proof of the frauds perpetrated against the Electorate and the Constitution, in 2000 by the "Brooks Brothers Riot" and the illegal votes of only the Roman Catholics on the Supreme Court's 'Bush v. Gore' (read Breyer's dissent to know how they specifically violated long established precedent, and the Constitution), and as documented by the GAO in Ohio, and suggest "The New Pearl Harbor," Griffin, PhD, to any lacking the absolute moral certainty necessary to "pull the switch" on those known to have committed 9/11 treason as Reichstag Fire Redux for false war for heroin, oil and the Saudis: Bush and Cheney.
Additionally read America's Whig Founders, before schooling on the virtues of Adam Smith by China's leader, to know their Whig Interpretation of History is yet accurate and key to recognizing the machinations of the "Fifth Column," of that which Th.Jefferson identified as "the real Anti-Christ," in the assassinations of our leaders from Meriwether Lewis and Lincoln, to Kennedy and King, the fraud of fiat money whose whirlwind we now reap with welfare fascism on Wall Street, finance of Hitler and the Holocaust through Vatican-banker Rockefeller and Prescott Bush, Vietnam, IranContra, Waco, the OKCity Bombing, and illegal immigration in accord with the USConf of Cath Bishops' "National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry" to usurp our culture and Republic at the ballot box.
History unfolds as a conflict between "Rome" and everyone else. Whig means "anti-Rome" and the Whigs founded America as the New Israel.
Those who follow the faction now led by JFK's assassin's homosexual draft-dodging, cat and frog-torturing megalomaniacal psychopath son, support Married to the Mob McCain, member of the Keating Five and absolute martial incompetent, and the inbred trailer trash from Alaska...but that sectarian faction is the Fifth Column of the Roman Anti-Christ from which we escaped to create the United States of America.
Evil is organized on earth. They know what they are doing. If the good and decent, in the military and police, fail to separate themselves from the sublimating psychopaths unable to overcome having been molested by Rome's pedophile priests, and stand with the People seeking righteousness taking Tories to the "Oak," Our Nation, the fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah, is doomed.
Bush and Cheney must hang for their 9/11 treason. McCain/Palin and everyone else who stands apart from the eighty percent who know full well of their treason risk the charge of Misprision of Treason.
The American People shall prevail. Obama/Biden is a small step in the right direction.
Any attempt to steal this election must be thwarted "by any means necessary." Better to be orgainized that the People once more as Whigs conquer Tory treason, but those betraying the Constitution sending us to die shedding innocent blood based on the lies they fabricated must be arrested regardless...that Annuit Coeptis pertain once more.

Looks like McCain is the one giving a much-needed civics lesson, judging from reactions across the spectrum.
All of these mental gymnastics, all this ruminating on possible conspiracy theories, when ya got a real one in front of you, no tin-foil needed. Obama's no progressive. He's a corporate candidate, corrupted by ambition, who enjoys the company of contentious authoritarians.
Regarding the post above: did you know that the same guy who filed a 9/11 lawsuit is suing for Obama to cough up his birth certificate?

I'm not sure how much more of this McCain farce I can stand before I start blowing chunks.

Oh, you mean the oath of office that is regularly trampled by cheap scum thieving fascist traitor murder pig demcorats every time they write and vote for more gun control? (disarm a victim- not crime fighting, is treason..and causes murders!) Abortion is murder, whether or not you want to admit it. WHo has caused more American deaths than ALL WARS combined? DEMOCRATS!! 40 million abortions! half a million murders (just ten biggest cities 1965- to present) in the gun control towns!! Who screamed in support of our enemies? DEMOCRAT TRAITORS.
SO, NOW, it would seem the oath of office, which says protect and defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, demands that americans drop dems wherever they can be found!~

So someone with whom you disagree politically is a domestic "enemy" who should be "dropped." Is that it? If so, your death threat has been duly noted, as has your IP address. The "good people on the inside" thank you. Have a nice day.

Ummm... I know a LOT of military people, both enlisted and officers, from all five branches, and not a one of them is in any danger of supporting a coup attempt.
It's kind of offensive that you're so out of touch with the national security community that you would even think that's possible.
Barack Obama is a Democrat. There have been others before him, and there will be more after him. Even right-wing ideologues in the military recognize that there's nothing he can do in four or eight years that would do more to harm this country than for them to do what you're (baselessly) suggesting.

The article specifically referenced "security forces" and did not specifically reference any particular segment of the security forces, which extend beyond the military. With major candidates referencing the "pro-America" sections of the country, and a congresswoman calling for media investigations into "anti-American" members of Congress, I believe it is entirely appropriate to remind all sworn personnel to consider the obligations implicit in pledging to uphold the Constitution of the U.S.
Your statement that my suggestion is doing "harm" to our country is precisely the kind of anti-democratic, authoritarian rhetoric that leads me to make the suggestion. The exercise of free speech does "harm" to our nation? You, sir, are expressing the very intolerance for our constitutionally-protected freedoms that led me to write this column.
So thank you for making my point for me. Have a nice day.

"He's a corporate candidate, corrupted by ambition, who enjoys the company of contentious authoritarians."
And that's different from every US President of the past, oh, 50 years or so ... how? And how that amounts to a conspiracy is far from obvious. Nice attempt at diverting the discussion, though! Loser!
