McGuinty rules out use of sharia law in Ontario

Here is a story from 2005, in how close we were to have Sharia Law in Ontario, Canada, if not for Canadians protesting , we were close to a vote to pass Sharia Law in Ontario, Canada. In light of the recent laws being considered in Afghanistan regarding taking away Afghani Womens rights, Sharia Law is also a law written by men for men, with little regard for women. Yes, many will counter and say, but Barry, that is not true, this would never happen in Canada? Yeah, England thought it wouldn't happen there either! Believe it or not, when Britons heard Toronto, Ontario, Canada was considering Sharia Law, they protested in front of our Canadian Embassy in England, as they realised the Folly of their decision to allow it in Britain. It is easier to pass a law than break it, so England is stuck with it.
Why did British and Canadian politicians try and pass this law? Well lets see, Hmmmmmm, perhaps liberal politicians saw Votes from those who wanted Sharia Law, regardless that other Canadians protested it from other parts of Canada, because these Politicians it seems did not care what other Canadians thought since they were not in their Political Riding and had no voting rights.
So in ending, lets Agree, When in Rome............................ you are Roman, and as such must abide by the laws of this Land, otherwise, why did you flee to get here in the first place?
As far as I am concerned the separation of church and state must be enforced, as we all know, there is no equality in Religious circles when women are concerned.

McGuinty rules out use of sharia law in Ontario

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says there will be no sharia law in his province and that he will move to ban all faith-based arbitrations.
Seeking to end months of debate, McGuinty said he would not let his province become the first Western government to allow the use of Islamic law to settle family disputes and that the boundaries between church and state would become clearer by banning religious arbitration completely.
"There will be no Shariah law in Ontario. There will be no religious arbitration in Ontario. There will be one law for all Ontarians," McGuinty told The Canadian Press.
The proposal to let Ontario residents use Islamic law for settling family disputes drew protests Thursday in Canada and at some of its diplomatic sites across Europe.
Ontario, the most populous province in Canada, has allowed Catholic and Jewish faith-based tribunals to settle family law matters such as divorce on a voluntary basis since 1991.
The practice got little attention until Muslim leaders demanded the same rights.

Yeah, well when political votes are needed, seems politicians will sell their souls and ethics

Hence why it is imperative people vote, cause if you dont, someone else will, and if you do not like the way the country is being run, people who do not vote and really, really listen to the issues have no one to blame but themselves if the country goes to hell in a handbasket.

I find it peculiar that you do not want it on your door step but have no problem requesting, demanding that Israel accept this insanity.

Thanks Barry for this one. When it hits home all of sudden people begin to wake up and smell the flowers. But by then it is too late.

Hey -- thanks for highlighting this. I've a slight correction: shariah law's not been adopted in the UK, and has been vigorously opposed. Here's another article that comments on the Archbishop's comments (mentioned above), and on shariah worldwide.

Thanks Everyone for your comments, truly appreciated, you know what really pisses me off, is many in the West think all Muslims or people who are from the middle east, Pakistan or India are terrorists, no amount of convincing them will get them to change their mind. Perhaps you could enlighten readers, by doing a story on the peoples of Pakistan and the Middle east, such as telling the West, if not for your people, the West would not have Mathematics, Sciences, Medicine, Astrology, or even the English Language developed by the Indo peoples thousands of years ago! Many believe in the West we Invented all this, not realizing the West, are relatively New in technological advancement of only a thousand years, while the Indo and middle eastern peoples had Palaces, cities, Government, Society, Trade, Sciences, Laws,Technology, Agriculture for over 3000 years while we in the West were living in Caves and Eating bugs. Certainly that would let those who think we invented everything know perhaps our society was started by previous civilizations.

well those days are gone when Muslims were performing eye serguries and Europe was in dark ages, Al Jebra and chemistery etc.. Christianity more or less had the same troubles I am sure Jesus wont be impressed with Catholics and Protestants have done to each other in Europe and what they are doing in Ireland.
every civilisation had its time when it ruled and then it declined and there were factors contributing to it. Taliban and Al-Qaida are doing a good job of spreading hate and getting the whole faith demonised. me and people myself are trying to voice out differnt view point but sadly it doesnt have the sell value for the media.. Media will find a taliban execution or a questionable Imam hate speach more sensational to air.. it will get more people talking.

So true Amaad, scandal sells papers, if not the Taliban, then stories if Britney Spears is wearing underwear or not, of what are the toilet habits of our Prime Minister. You do have to give NP credit, at least we can publish more intelligent stories from people all over the world by people with first hand knowledge and have people from all over the world provide commentary, versus local news rags.
